Evo X and family (List all the Mitsubishis you've owned)

My passion for Mitsubishi's started with the EVO thanks to Microsoft (laughs)... After playing Ralli Sport Challenge for the original Xbox "way back in the day", I decided I had to have one. To make a long story short I've purchased three Lancers (OZ, GTS, GSR); however my fever continued on into Mitsubishi's vehicle line up. I now have three Mitsubishi's parked in my garage and have had zero issues with either of the three (rather than my aero kit). The Mighty Max is now known as the Triton and is only sold over sea's, I figured some of you guys would get a kick out of this... I was wondering how some of you guys got involved with the EVO and if you've owned any other Mitsubishi products rather than the EVO?

I have owned 2 Evos an 8 and now the 10. Before the evos I had 3 eclipse gsx's and a talon tsi.
I also had an 02 wrx, now my wife has an 04 wrx wagon.
What can I say I love turbo awd cars.

Xtremist Aug 3, 2009 04:59 PM

Yeah I can see you have a love for turbos and AWD's! Although all my cars aren't turbo'd they all sport AWD and 4WD lol. I own the EVO, my Mom owns the Endeavor and my Dad rocks the Mighty Max! I honestly don't know who pushed Mitsubishi on them (laughs) MUH HAH HAH HAH!

TheBlueBlur Aug 3, 2009 05:12 PM

Had an Evo 9 for about a year, now I own an X. Evos are the only Mitsubishi vehicle I would ever consider buying.

John83 Aug 3, 2009 05:28 PM

friends of mine have owned: 86 conquest, 95 talon tsi, eclipse gst, and evo 8. i love turbo, i love awd, i knew the evo was for me. mitsubishi as a brand, i have always loved. when i first started getting into cars i thought the eclipse was the coolest car, then the 3000gt vr4 was awesome too. when a friend told me about the evo and how it was coming to the states, i thought it sounded like the coolest car ever.

RaysEvoX Aug 3, 2009 06:03 PM

My first car was a 02 WRX and now I got a Evo X. Than I got a 1991 3000GT SL. The 3000GT was just for goofing off in until I blew the motor. I have plans on getting a new motor and putting a turbo in it. Not sure if I want to keep it after it is running again or sale/trade it.

Xtremist Aug 3, 2009 06:03 PM

Indeed, Mitsubishi as a brand has been rather good to me... I don't care what people say, their a reliable form of transportation that knows how to make one heck of a prize fighter (GSX, VR4, Ralliart, EVO and so forth)!

Xtremist Aug 3, 2009 06:04 PM

VR4's were amazing rides, the awd and aws was something unheard of back in the day!

Pete3kGT Aug 3, 2009 06:56 PM

I've owned and Evo VIII, a 3000GT, and a Galant all were great cars with no issues.

SupremeX Aug 3, 2009 07:03 PM

I had a 1G Eclipse GST, 2G GSX and 3G GT before I bought my Evo X. Right after I bought the EVO, I went and picked my wife up an Outlander. Mitsu love here!

blk-majik Aug 3, 2009 07:07 PM

I really got into the Evos after reading about some of the rally tech that was being developed when the 6's were new. I got more into it after spending way too much time at the beginning of college playing the rally maps in gran turismo 3 on the ps2 ;)

I got my first lancer es from my internship during last year and a half of college. It was a used fleet car, but was in decent shape and I got a STEAL on it. Then I upgraded to a ralliart about 1 week after landing my first real job. Also got an eclipse gt for the gf at the same time (her first real job, too). She traded up for an endevour after we got big dogs. And finally I just traded the ralliart for an gsr a few months ago.

So thats 5 mitsus I bought in the last 6 years... and not a single one from the same dealership because they all try to screw you at some point. Now THATS karma :) I'm hoping the one I'm dealing with now is a bit less greedy (so far so good... thank you economic crisis!)

Xtremist Aug 4, 2009 08:58 AM

Yeah I really hope Mitsubishi gets back on track with the next Eclipse, either that or bring back the 3000GT VR4... The newest revision of the Eclipse looks rather sharp but it's hardly a performer!

fame118 Aug 4, 2009 09:05 AM

How was the Montero? I really like the new style which Mitsubishi only sold for a very limited time (State side).

strat10 Aug 4, 2009 10:19 AM

Ive got an X, and a 93 Montero.

The Montero is smoking a bit, but understandable after 179K miles!

Xtremist Aug 4, 2009 10:36 AM

Nice rides, very nice! My Dad's Mighty Max smokes a little after setting for awhile, more than likely valve seals? 179k isn't bad, I'm sure it has plenty life left. One of the reasons I posted this was due to everyone asking about Mitsubishi's reliability. They don't make flawless vehicles but they're built just as good as toyota or honda. Our Mighty Max has 143k, the body is in super great shape and the 4WD pulls harder than any other 4WD I've been in. Just last night I took the X out and was totally blown away, over a year of ownership and the car still puts a huge smile on my face when going around the twisties and the turnies.

strat10 Aug 4, 2009 10:44 AM

My Dad's Mighty Max smokes a little after setting for awhile, more than likely valve seals?

That is what it points to, but to fix that its most likely a head job, and my mechanic says that may stress the bottom end out to much.

It puffs pretty bad when I first gas it to get up to speed, but when I am there it seems ok.

It is funny to smoke out the ladies in the Prius, man, they give me a dirty look going through a cloud of exhaust smoke :)

Xtremist Aug 4, 2009 01:28 PM

(HAHA) I bet. Yeah my Dad's only smokes when you first start it up, after that you can get on it and it's smokeless, no water leaking from the muffler or anything weird like that! If you let it set over night and start it in the morning it's usually there but clears up after words. Did they quote you on the repair? What size engine is in your Montero? 3.0 or 3.8 V6?

strat10 Aug 4, 2009 05:14 PM

Im taking it to a guy on thursday. Its the 3.0

Dr..Evo Aug 5, 2009 08:21 AM

I had a gvr4 and 2 evos. I loved that galant it just got too rusty. even the power steering lines rusted away.

alktrio06 Aug 5, 2009 08:41 AM

I always wanted an eclipse. I thought the eclipse gsx was the hottest car. I eventually got a scion tc. Driving around in MI, I realized I need an awd car. So alas, I am here with an evo x mr!

Yeah man the GSX was something else, they simply need to bring that style of Eclipse back. AWD, Turbo charged, Intercooled coupe! It was a hot car for sure. The Galant is a solid car as well, really high reliability rating and the VR4 won car of the year in the early 90's!

I'm glad to see everyone who's posted as tried Mitsubishi's other vehicles, the EVO is the flagship of their fleet, although they do make great vehicles in general!

Codevo Aug 5, 2009 07:35 PM

95 GS-T Got it when I was 16 as my first car. Riced it out with a body kit an orange paint job and 19"s. Cause of death: Crankwalk

98 GSX Got this one when I was 17, it was super mint and low mileage red on black/tan leather, bought it for 3k from old retired dude sold it for 9000 dollars but only after 1 clutch and 1 transmission later (first awd car lol).

03 EVO VIII Got it @ 19 yrs old already a built 2.4 stroker with an FPGreen for 20k. 3, yes that is correct, 3 transfer cases and 1 clutch later (hardddd launching with 500+wtq) I traded it in for the X.

08 EVO X Got it right before my 20'th bday and put 2 clutches, 23k miles on it and blew the motor up, haven't even had it 9 months yet... ****

Aside from clutches and good ol' crankwalk, mitsubishi's have been good to me. (and yes I can drive! F off lol)

Blue8g Aug 5, 2009 07:48 PM

i'm jealous!

sith_killer_99 Aug 5, 2009 07:57 PM

My first Mitsubishi was a 2009 RA, bought it about 5 months ago, plan of getting an Evo X...once the RA is paid off.:D

whoang40 Aug 6, 2009 01:47 AM

Here's my list of Mits. I've owned:

'95 Galant
'95 GSX
'97 GST
'96 Eclipse RS
'03 Eclipse GT
'04 Evo GSR
'05 Evo MR

Now RR '08 X MR

Hope I stop on my X:p

boondoc Aug 6, 2009 02:42 AM

I had an '03 Lancer OZ, then an 04' RA (for about a month) and not i got the 09 RA. Saving up for an X or XI which ever comes 1st.

Xtremist Aug 6, 2009 06:28 AM

Yeah I heard crank walk was pretty bad in the Eclipses, didn't they solve some of those issues when the 2g Eclipse came out? I'm really surprised to see none of us have owned a Mirage yet (which the Lancer replaced)... Good little cars everyone looked over!

sne2040 Aug 6, 2009 01:09 PM

I had a total of 3 Mitsu already.

1st. 1995 3000GT VR-4. It was my first car at 18. I had it for about a year. It was heavily modified when i bought it (which is didn't know at the time). Transmission issues occurred and it was a money pit so i sold it.

2nd. 1997 Eclipse GSX. I bought it off a friend with 64k original miles for $2800. Down fault: it was an Auto and it was beat to ****.... and didn't run. I got it to run, sold the extra goodies off of it, drove it around for a couple of months and sold it for profit.

3rd. Evo X. She's been good to me.

In between the Eclipse and the Evo X, i had an 04 STi (pretty fast and fun car) and a Mazda 3 (non-speed) as a daily. All in all, i only got the Evo now and a large payment from negative equity off my STi

Xtremist Aug 6, 2009 02:10 PM

I've never been in a VR-4 before, I heard they were pretty fast considering the years they were made... Was it anything like your X? It was pretty advanced I do know that.

P.S. Shame on Mitsubishi for putting auto's in the GSX (j/k). To each their own I suppose.

mathgeek Aug 6, 2009 06:04 PM

2003 Eclipse GTS, 2005 Evo VIII, 2008 Eclipse GT, 2008 Evo X. Still have the last two in this list.

geezevox Aug 6, 2009 07:09 PM

88 Daytona Shelby (almost a mitsu) Very fast for it's time
92 1G N/A base model, didn't even have AC
91 1G GST Bushur Stage 3 block and head (sold it after I bought the 08 Evo)
08 Evo GSR

After 20 years of driving, I finally got on the AWD train. Now there's no going back

Lol negative. With the debut of the 2g is when the issue of crankwalk had to be addressed, because it was so rampant.

AM-EVO Aug 6, 2009 07:46 PM

I currently own an 04 Eclipse GT (silver) and just bought my new EVO X last month.
Both cars were purchased brand new...the Eclipse has over 100,000 miles now and I've had absolutely ZERO problems with it. Then again, I maintain my vehicles well but I'm happy with the brand in general.

My discovery of turbos started about a year after I got the 2000 eclipse, around the same time I discovered forums, from there it's been turbo ever since, so far as to trade in the '07 C6 Z51 vette for the X, I couldn't be without a turbo ;)

-04 evo VIII
-94 Mitsu Mighty Max 4 banger (sold long time ago for a real truck)

javip1986 Aug 18, 2009 10:03 AM

To be honest i have had subaru's all my life (i'm 23). First the 2.5i, second 04wrx third and last 05 sti. Never had problems with subbies but i own an evo 8 now and had more problems in a year than i had with all three subarus since high school. Might be the fact that i bought the evo used and was probably beaten by the time i got it. So far i've replaced the headgasket, front axles, struts and remachine the head (port and polished while i was at it). That's my story, so to disappoint you all.

Xtremist Aug 18, 2009 11:10 AM

I beg to differ on the Mighty Max being a real truck, as my Dad owns the 1 ton version with a 2.6 4g54 power plant. Sure it's not the fastest, but I'd never buy a truck to run laps around a track or drag. As far as the Subaru vs. Mitsubishi reliability goes, I'm sure that's entirely up to the owner of the vehicle! I've seen a 98 Mitsubishi Mirage totally defiled! He bottom the vehicle out and busted the a/c unit while doing so, ripped the seats out, nailed mail boxes with the car, replaced the muffler with coffee cans, painted the dash with spray paint, removed the hood and would literally pull the e brake at 65 mph.

This kid raced time and time again but the Mirage simply would not die, to me that speaks a lot about the vehicle... If I would have done half that to my Mustang, a tow truck would have been my only transportation home!!! Which I would never ever in my wildest dreams beat on a car as this kid had done. Long story short your EVO was probably ragged on and beat down, it's not uncommon to see Endeavors with 300k miles, as well as Mighty Max's and I'm sure my X will join the high millage club with no qualms!

Xtremist Aug 18, 2009 11:14 AM

Ahh... I also forgot about the Diamante, which was another decent vehicle that never really caught on! The Galant ranks among the most dependable of all cars in it's class as well! I do believe the VR4 Galant won car of the year back in the mid 90's as well...

I double that. The EVO is a very good car, almost too good to wear a Mitsu badge. The only other decent vehicle Mitsu makes would be the Ralliart. Unfortunately, making a good vehicle alone is not good enough for most consumers. As for any other kind of vehicle, be it a family sedan, mini van, SUV or Pickup, reliability AND customer service are EXTREMELY important, especially in a country like the US where people spend so much time behind the wheel. Mitsubishi gets a -10 for customer service IMO and they are NOT easy to deal with. There are scores of other brands that do a much better job.

To the OP, the line up definitely looks good and I can see how so many members on this site relate to mitsubishi based on their wonderful sports car line up over the years.

Xtremist Aug 18, 2009 09:53 PM

I will agree with you, Mitsubishi could improve their customer service 10 fold! MMNA was great to work with, however their reps aren't as nice!
