EVO X won't start, not sure it's the battery

Hello all,

I'm hoping I get some quick responses. So this morning I backed my car out of my garage to do some stuff in the garage and it was sitting the driveway all day. I tried to start it this evening to put it back into the garage and it won't start. I searched the forums and I know a lot of people said the original Panasonic battery, which I'm using, is pretty worthless, however I just wanted to get some input because I'm not completely sure it's the battery for a few reasons.
#1. I tried to jump it and still no luck.
#2. All my electronics are working fine and when I try to start the car, the dash lights don't really dim or anything.
#3. I haven't left anything on to drain the battery.
Now if it's the battery, that's fine. But before I miss work tomorrow to tow this thing to the dealer, I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on other possible causes that may have an easy fix?

Is it turning over?

#1Noob Jul 11, 2010 09:45 PM

It turns over and I checked, I'm getting a spark in at least one of my plugs. I was too lazy to check all four.

Could be several things, I was going to say check your plugs/wires if it is turning over... Did the 1 you pulled look ok? Id check the others as well.

Yeah the spark looked fine. At this point, I'm taking it to the dealer since, as you said, it could be a number of things. It's stock and only 17K miles, so I'm hoping to not get any gruff about it from them. At some point it sounds like it's about to start and then doesn't. I don't wanna keep on trying because I don't wanna flood the engine, probably already did.

i have had that happen twice

E6-X Jul 11, 2010 10:56 PM

chk yr fuses n relays ... possibly no fuel

#1Noob Jul 12, 2010 12:02 AM

thekhmer - you had it happen twice, but don't reply how you fixed it? Was it continual or was it just a weird momentary thing where you tried again and it worked? Because that happened to me all the time, I would just try again and it would work. That is not the case here, however if that is what you were referring to, I would pay attention to this thread as what has happened to my car will likely happen to yours at some point.

E6-X - Ummm, ok there's fuel in the car. Fuses and relays? Care to be more specific or is this just some general answer you're throwing out there because you heard it somewhere?

Problem solved. I didn't even know this was possible, but apparently the X has fuel pickup issues. So with my less than half a tank of gas and being on an incline, prevented fuel from getting to the throttle body/engine. While trying to start it, I pumped the gas about 10+ times and finally VROOM! This issue was explained to me by someone on another forum, so I don't wanna take credit. Thanks mlomker, if you're here as well. Apparently, justing putting more gas in the tank or rolling it to a flat surface would've gotten me the same results. Thanks again everyone for your input.

did u change your fuel relays? green or blue. ah yeah the pump is located on the right side so make sure theres sufficient fuel inside tank ... lol

nice info to share :)

I changed it awhile back to green. The black one was done and once I had changed it to the new green one, I started smelling gas in my garage again everytime I started the car. Weird that the smell of gasoline is the indicator that all is right with this car.
