Car wouldn't move with momentum

Hi,
I just got my X a couple of weeks back & 1 thing that im not sure about is when I release the accelerator pedal the car instead of moving with the momentum tends to start stopping very early. Im not sure if that is how its suppose to be cuz usually in other cars the car generally accelerates for a while with the momentum it has & then starts slowing down but in the X the car starts slowing down immediately just as I stop pressing the accelerator. Is this a problem or is it how it is ???

What other cars are you comparing to? One of the first things I noticed and had to get used to in my evo was the lower gearing. If you are just comparing first gear in the evo to first gear in another car with a higher first gear, then I can understand what you are seeing.

Are you just releasing the gas, not pressing in the clutch, and seeing what the car does? Or, are you releasing the gas, pressing the clutch, an letting the car "coast" to see what it does?

I also noticed that my evo does not coast as much as my much as my FWD talon did. I attributed that to the AWD drive train and heavier weight.

Bottom line: I don't think anything is odd with your car. But more details and experimenting could help determine that.

My car when I got it, had terrible off pedal deceleration.

I would be driving along fine and as soon as I'd let off the gas to coast, the car would really start slowing down quickly. Like doing 30mph and letting off the gas, within 3 seconds the car would be going 15mph, another 3 seconds, 5mph.

It had a stuck blow off valve. I cleaned it so that it opens again, and I also changed it from VTA to fully recirculating. It really fixed the problem and I think the BOV was my issue. Not to mention no more surge since the BOV vents properly now.

Now I can go 30mph, let off the gas, and 3 seconds later I'm doing 27mph, and 3 more seconds I'm doing 23mph. Fuel economy has drastically went up, and the car doesn't buck at all between gears like it used to.

You just made me think of an idea.... Why not make a patch for ECU braking?

Press a button, which changes the input voltage to something hooked up to the ECU on an unknown MUT, which causes the ECU to engine brake until you let off or push in the clutch.

Might be an interesting idea to save brakes..... I'm still trying to figure out if I'm serious or not.

This is not brake saving technology...it is all part of the traction control system. It took me a while to get used to it, and it always felt weird. More specifically the AYC and its tiny torque converter that sits in front of the rear diff. In snow mode it is much more aggressive going down hill and you can feel it even more when pressing the brake. Also if you switch to the little traction gauge, you can see the middle bars light up when braking.

But my IX has no AYC, or traction control/stability control.

Just ACD.

Im comparing it with very very basic cars nothing as fancy as the Evo...Comparing it to a Toyota Corolla or a Lexus ES300(old shape). I have the sst so no clutching for me..I just put it in drive & im cruising but as soon as I take my foot of the accelerator the car starts slowing down & compared to those cars it actually slows down in a rapid rate. I also dont think there's a problem its probably the traction and everything with it that is the reason. But still I just wanted to be sure if it actually happens to other Evo's as well

luvboost Feb 7, 2011 02:15 PM

how rapid? Because my sst slows also when removing my foot off the accelerator but nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe it is the ACD...all these acronyms...S-AWC, ACD, AYC, TGIF, OMGWTFBBQ...and the list goes on.

Depends what mode our in. In s-mode when in bumper to bumper traffic I rarely use the brakes. People behind me must hate it not seeing my stop lights when I slow down to an almost crawl.
