ENEOS is it safe ? 0w50
 

So basiclaly short story, alot of dealers down here are slapping ENEOS 0w20 into the lancers n evos apparenty as the new factory fill instead of mobil 1.

So my question to the community and oil gurus. Is this stuff safe? 0w20 for most lancers and evos or...

How about more importantly their "race" oil. ENEOS 0w50 ??? Apparenty the zinc n phosphates are 1500"s ppm or whatever. Can anyone help confirm this oil as appropriate

Apparently it's no 1 in japan so it states on the label lol and @ 95$ per 5 liters and 25$ per liter it is hopefully all they state it to be. Alot of guys run 0w20 down here

If your car is a commuter/daily driver use the 5w30 in regular the eneos or sustina.

i used it on my evo for years eneos 0w50..great oil for oem bearings, and the car felt healthier and reved quicker

myself and many others would prefer to use Mobil 1 EP for some specific reasons that we can discuss you you wanted me to.

p.s rule of thumb never go down in viscocity but you can go up,, example if you car requires a 10W30 never use an 0W20, you can use a 10W40

I'd love to know why an Amsoil vendor would prefer anything other than Amsoil :lol:

But seriously, the info you posted was very useful, and I'd definitely be glad to hear your thoughts on EP (vs regular Mobile 1, or whatever else)

Looks like the Zinc and Phosphorus levels are too low for a performance/racing oil. I've seen other tests that confirm this.

Thank you guys this is what I was hoping to see. So it's fine for lancers that daily drive. And it's "ok" for a Evo I guess but the contents are WAY low for someone that actually drives the Evo hard like 99% of us :p

im currently running eneos 5w40 in my car. prefer 10w40 much like apag said about viscosity, but this weight was all i could find. oil has served me well in my car for a long time, and my dad uses it religiously in his X. i wouldnt go with that weight, but i trust eneos oil in the evo.

On a side note of this oil topic. In Japan I can buy this HKS oil formulated for 4g63. Its 5.5w38 fully synthetic. Its about 120 USD for a 5 liter( little more than one oil change).

What reason do you have to run anything other than the spec'd 5w30 oil?

Edit: you live in canada you do get ASMOIL

I'd also consider the Mobil 1 0w-40 and the high mileage stuff. Both carry more zinc and phos.

The Amsoil dominator{thumbup}15w50 is an awesome oil to look into.
