Everything electrical shut down while driving and now it won't start

On our way home today the radio shut off unexpectedly and I immediately looked and the dashboard And the odometer and speedometer were not working and wert warming light there is was going off. It seemed to be running fine so I drove it home and when I turned it off it was make a strange clicking noise by the abs box. Now it won't turn over. Has this happened to anyone before?

I have never heard of that happening to an Evo.
It might be some of the mods you have? You heavily modded?

Interesting. Subscribed to see what it ends up being.

We haven't put in any mods into for awhile.

I'm interested as well. Would like to know what happened :(

odd, cars do weird ass things...

BaumBizzle Jun 12, 2012 07:13 PM

WTF?!? Please let us know what happened when you find out, thats nuts!

Have you checked the battery?

ugakirk Jun 12, 2012 07:48 PM

Sounds like the alternator quit for some reason and then the battery ended up using all its juice since it is the only source of power. Hence the reason it's not starting now. It happened once to my VIII because the bolt from the alternator came off the cable that runs to the battery to transfer the power.

After working on it for hours my husband and I decided to switch out the battery with his wrx which didn't work. When we put the evo battery back in it reset the system and is running fine. I'm still a little leery about it. I'm thinking Maybe the key fab or something with the alarm system.

Could just be the battery connectors...I had an issue in my 09 ralliart ( now own a evo x). The dealership didn't tighten down the positive terminal and I had the same issues you just had.

BaumBizzle Jun 12, 2012 09:02 PM

That's still pretty crazy...you gonna take it in and get it checked or just roll w/ it?

I'd definitely start with the basics, check alternator charging voltage, check battery, check cable connections. Sometimes little things like that go a long way. It probably also wouldn't hurt to go in and check and make sure there are no loose relays in the fuse boxes, weird things that like happen a lot... It sounds like there were some relays under the dash that were not getting sufficient power, when you shut it off.

something similar actually has happened to me. i just had a power loss and all my gauges jsut went down and all my warnings popped up on the dash then it just died on me in the middle of stop and go traffic on my way to class one morning. had it towed to nearest mitsubishi dealership and they diagnosed it. apparently, the fuse link assembly was blown. the part itself is like 35$ but at that time there werent any available except for like 2 which were privately owned my deaelrs across the country. not really sure what caused it, dealership claims it was my aftermarket sub wiring, but i think it may have been me when iwas trying to install shifter bushings and may have shorted something with the socket after i remember it banging near the fuse link assembly..

Check your battery ground. Make sure it is tight. Check the relay and fuse block connections, make sure they are tight.

I suspect that one of the ground connections came loose and so power was cut. When you reinstalled the battery the ground made contact again and it worked.

There are, I believe, multiple ground points, check them all.
