RECALL- Manual trans Evo X's

I know I'm not on here much anymore but I just received an email stating that there will be a recall notice sent out in November. It pertains to Evolutions built from December 12, 2007 to March 5, 2013, specifically the Clutch Master Cylinder. The Recall won't be open until November, meaning repairs won't begin until then, but this way ya'll can be aware.

Subject: Upcoming Safety Recall Affecting Certain 2008 - 2013 Lancer Evolution – Clutch Master Cylinder

On September 18, 2013, MMNA submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a Defect Information Report regarding certain 2008 - 2013 Lancer Evolution vehicles built from December 12, 2007 – March 5, 2013. Due to an insufficient bonding strength of clutch master cylinder components, separation may occur, resulting in fluid leakage. This condition results in the inability to engage or disengage the clutch, limits the ability to shift the transmission into or out of a gear, and can create a no start condition once the vehicle comes to a stop.

In November, you will receive a formal/official dealer notification from MMNA regarding the above safety recall. You are receiving this advance, informal letter because:

1. NHTSA will announce the recall on their website shortly after receipt of our Defect Information Report, and MMNA wants to assist you in handling any customer inquiries you may receive regarding this recall.

In the event you receive any direct customer inquiries regarding this issue, please feel free as necessary to refer them to the MMNA Customer Relations Hotline at (888) 648-7820. We appreciate your patience while we make the necessary preparations to launch this recall.

Sincerely,

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.

Interesting! Sounds like we may be getting a new, stronger, CMC for free. Good thing I'm still on the stock clutch :)

2 years too late. How did it take 5 years to get to this point!?

Maybe I'll make them do it just out of spite.

shekaar Oct 24, 2013 06:51 AM

Now recall stuff should be honored regardless of mods we have done, correct? I dont need to worry about going back to stock just to get this done on mine?

Calling out Bobby calling out Bobby (TrogdorWBL)! Is this true?

@Shekaar

Correct. A recall must be performed unless an unauthorized mod DIRECTLY prevents it. None of the "vaguely related" crap that they pull WRT warranty work can be used in this case. Thus, they cannot say No because of your aftermarket clutch, for example. They can only say No if you have some funky STB, for example, that gets in the way.

ps. my lack of a JD or license (or malpractice insurance) should be noted, as usual

This is great news! I got an aftermarket clutch but stock cmc, so i hope this is true :D

I just called the hotline and gave my VIN. My car currently does not have any recalls on it. I purchased mine in April but it was in the showroom in March of 2013. She said it was VIN specific so you can type in your VIN here and find out....

So this is for only 2013 Evo's? I've got a 2014. :D

I remember when I did my cat converter recall on my IX, they gave me a $50 gas voucher.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet. It might take a few weeks for the databases to get updated, especially Carfax. Since the NHTSA site doesn't list the recall yet, I wouldn't bet on Carfax either.

I guess is the best thing to do is wait for a bit and call the hotline again.

Be patient guys, it says you'll get notified in November so their system probably isn't even updated yet.

Well they will have to replace the item regardless of your mods. But I can see the dealers "making a note" in your file of the mods you have. May help them deny warranty work if needed in the future
