The X doesn't require synthetic? interesting..

I'm new to the X's because I've owned a 8 for 11yrs. And I just found out from the dealer that they stopped requiring evos to run synthetic oil. It doesn't even come manufactured. The Evo 8s are manufactured and requires synthetic oil changes but the X does not because they moved from timing belts to timing chains? Lol.. so new. Makes me wonder why spend $75 for synthetic oil when I can run the manufacturing oil it comes with which is regular oil for $30. $30 oil change or $75 lol. Any inputs on why people should run synthetic when they can just run regular oil?

You drive an Evo....run synthetic.

A quick 5 minute search of synthetic break down vs. conventional will answer that one for you.

My high performance race cars run synthetic, it's that simple.

Did my first oil change at 1,000miles for my 2014 EVO MR.
Didn't even bother to go to the dealership for a free oil change, because I know that they will change with regular/conventional oil.
Put synthetic in and was all set.

^ I literally did the exact same thing with my 2014 GSR @ 1k miles. Decided to not use the dealer change and went with amsoil fully synthetic. :)

Nothing but Amsoil for me here. 2 oil changes in already with my '13 GSR no way would I put anything but amsoil in my car after my experience with using their products.

I always used Amsoil (synthetic) on my cars all the time.
But this time for my EVO's first oil change, I tried Eneos.
I gave it a try and I am very satisfied with it.

It clearly states on mine to use synthetic. It cost me about $40 to change the oil myself.

they changed it in 2012 - no longer require synthetic. - Wrong statement!

Good to know!

e_kobz Sep 16, 2014 01:28 PM

OP if you want some good synthetic oil that isn't crazy expensive look into Brad Penn full synthetic oil

gibb202 Sep 16, 2014 03:23 PM

Oh good.....I was wondering when someone would bring this up.

TxFAkuma Sep 17, 2014 07:28 AM

If everyone is wondering.. of course I used synthetic oil. I was just surprised to see it was not required anymore. I used Mobile 1. Does anyone have any experience with valvoline synthetic oil?

kyoo Sep 17, 2014 11:54 AM

i remember when i first bought my evo the dealer told me i could run 89 because it used synthetic oil.... smh.

does mitsu offer free maintenance now or something? maybe they're trying to cut their costs. isn't conventional supposedly as good as synth until like 3k miles
