I really wanted to scream, yet no one can hear me and it won't help
For the 2nd time - in less than a week - my local Mitsubishi dealership says "the ACD pump is busted and we will not honour a replacement because we've gathered the data that shows your vehicle has been revved at 7300 rpm for 3 minutes, which caused the pump failure." After hearing that and knowing what I know from diligently reading EVO forums, I wanted to shout back to her "This is utter nonsense!"
I'll give the service manager the benefit of the doubt and assume someone is telling her to say that. Yet, to deny simple, logical, reasonable facts in the face of mountain of documentation befuddles me to the Nth degree. It's as if someone is arguing an apple falls to the ground because an one-eyed monster lives below the surface. Just wanted to rant and get this off my chest. It was burning my insides up as I metro-ed home; knowing no one outside this community will understand what I'm going through .... |
You're in Maryland, isn't it obvious it died from weather related issues? Seems like you could simply see the corrosion?
|
Mitsubishi tried to deny my recall... bunch of idiots there
|
i think that is bull crap... So one day ur pump is working... Then u decide to rev your engine for 7 minutes and then your pump doesn't work immediately after you were done reving. I would like to kno how they can prove that is exactly what you did because that makes no sense. Even if you did that how could that cause your pump to fail....? And why would you do that??? I think you want to speak to someone higher up the corporate ladder....
|
That sucks. Sorry to hear that. So what now?
|
Patience and continue to engage in honest dialogue with Mitsubishi Corp and attempt to make progress with the local Mitsubishi dealership...What will you have me do?

I did not do that. Have not brought the vehicle to red-line and don't anticipate doing so in or near the future; not my style. Further, the vehicle was purchased last Wed out in OH and noticed the blinking light as I made the 370 mile drive home. I reckon it was the original owner (I'm the 2nd owner) that had brought the vehicle above 6900 rpm (that's when the counter starts recording) up to 180 seconds, meaning 3 minutes, over the course of his ownership - with maximum rpm up to 7300. A case is pending with Mitsubishi Corp while a dreadful, anxiety-filled visit to the local dealership is scheduled for Friday.

I went through the same process last year; dealership wouldn't do anything and calling the Mitsubishi number was like talking to a moron. After sending an email to corporate Mitsubishi, I got a call back from them saying that they would pay for the part if I paid for the $300+ in labor at the dealership. Hopefully, yours turns out well too.

Still under factory warranty? They should cover.unless your warranty expired.
|
Which dealership is giving you this grief? Not King, I hope...
|
My EVO is covered under the 5yr / 60K powertrain warranty and the acd-pumpis NOT considered a powertrain component. However, Mitsubishi Corp may (and can) show largess and extend goodwill towards this effort. Fingers crossed and let’s see what happens…

Wow! You must have a crystal ball OR (more likely) some places have reputations that precedes itself.

Might be worth it to give Shirlie Slack a call, it's a little bit of a drive for you down to Fredericksburg but they've always been awesome to deal with which is more than I can say about King.

I know what youre going through after practically rebuilding a new GTO and sworn off GM forever. Hope you get it fixed with good results OP !

Redemption!
In a surprising and stunning turn of events, King Mitsubishi (in conjunction with Regional and Corporate Mitsubishi reps) was able to install a new ACD-pump under manufacture warranty. I'm utterly stunned and nearly speechless; finally, I'm able to sleep peacefully and not worry about the incessant blinking of the word "TARMAC." :)
Thank everyone from the amazingly, supportive, engendering EVO community. Further, thank you all for the kind advice and the superb archives - filled with helpful references and research material rivalling any institution of higher education. Regards, - How |
