What should I do with my high miles 2014 Evo X MR?

Apologize ahead of time, I’m not really sure how to use this site to post in the right category...
Whelp...the day has come where my SST transmission decided to lose it’s even gears. The car has 120k miles on it. I’m not sure if I want to try to find a private buyer or have the transmission rebuilt. I’ve been in contact with Jacks Transmissions and their prices seem reasonable. I need some advice from you guys.
what would be a reasonable offer for my Evo X MR with 120k miles and needs a new transmission?
or should I go ahead and rebuild the transmission and sell the car later? Will that decrease the value?
If I were to sell it, I would love to get another evo so I would probably keep my aftermarket parts and put on the stock parts, but I read it is best to keep the aftermarket parts with it?
It has a few dings and marks, wheels are curbed and I had to replace the passenger side skirt which eventually the clips broke so the front end of it is hanging a little.
other than the trans it has been a super reliable car up until 120k. Never launched. People with SSTs always used to ask me how I haven’t replaced the transmission yet.
MOD list:
Ultimate racing turbo back exhaust (high flow cat)
Swift Springs
Injen intake + UIC pipes
vland audi style tails and heads (rgb bulbs)
Stoptech slotted rotors
H&R 20mm wheel spacers
Some cosmetic carbon fiber parts (vortex generator, Trunk lip, hood scoop)
Cobb accessport
Blizzaks with excellent tread are on the car right now

Love the car so much and would hate to get rid of it but I just need some advice on what I should do. Would love to try to find a GSR with low miles.
I’m from the Philadelphia area.
Post here, send me a pm or email me @ LR846299@wcupa.edu
if you want some pictures or have any advice
Thanks guys!

As a fellow 2014 MR owner - if you still love the car, fix it.

I would contact Kozmic as well, before you make any decisions on a new transmission; I just recently replaced my stocker with one of their built ones, and have nothing but good things to say. Not cheap, but probably in line with what Jacks offers.

But yeah, if you like the car, and want to keep it; keep it. Just fix the transmission and move on.

Yes fix the transmission and then sell it.
As is you will get 7-8k max and will get a whole bunch of low 5k offers.
Fix it and sell for 13-15k

+1 on fixing it regardless of keeping or selling...

Out of curiosity, how often did you service the SST fluid and filter, if at all? I believe "severe" conditions call for a 10-15k interval; 30k for normal.

you can buy mine from me lol

Severe is every 30K, normal is every 60K, unless there's a TSB I'm not aware of

I just confirmed, and you are correct lol. I stick to what I mentioned just out of precaution and to play it safe with the wet clutches. It does state to "check for evidence of leaks (if necessary, check the oil level)" every 15k regardless.

I contacted them and I am definitely leaning towards them for sure! 👍🏻

I did a trans flush at 60k and again at 120k, a week before the trans went down the drain 🤦🏻*♂️

I'm just here to say "Save all Evos". Fix it, please.

You'll get pennies for selling it broken. Fixing it and then selling it will be a "profit" over selling it broken.Likely be lucky to get $7k broken. Trans is $6500. Prob get 16-17k fixed..

I live in Houston, have used Kozmic for years - seriously send it to them they know that transmission backwards and forwards.

OP, keep in mind the high prices you're seeing arent necessarily what you're going to pay. It will probably cost a pretty penny, but there are components that can be replaced individually, made by the manufacturer Getrag (there was a TSB 1-3 years ago about an eletrical-mechanical component available that would not require replacing a whole transmission, if that's the faulty part).

kaj Mar 8, 2019 12:23 PM

My rebuilds have always cost me twice the amount I'm quoted.
