HOW TO: Firewall Access
Parts Required - Whatever your trying to run through the firewall. Tools Required - Long Phillips (+) Screwdriver. Not too thin. Recommended Number of People - You can do this yourself. Difficulty - 3 - It's a pain if your not used to working in tight spaces. Time to complete - 30 seconds Step by Step Instructions 1 - Locate the main rubber grommet in the engine bay. It has a big fin on in. Don't be fooled. It's impossible to pull it out without unwrapping it from the wires. Attachment 300922 2 - Now poke a hole through the grommet on the left side just above the little tab that appears to split it in half. Go nice and slow, while turning the screwdriver, so that you don't snag any wires and don't cut into anything. Attachment 300923 Attachment 300924 Attachment 300925 Firewall - Cabin Side - It completely misses the wires, since the wires come in and cut to the left, and we made a hole on the right, there is actually enough room to pass a vaccum line or sensor wires or what have you. Attachment 300926 It may be hard to see, but there is a Thick White Wire in that harness. I have the screwdriver coming out well below it. Its silver, so look again and you will see it. Attachment 300927 If you need it bigger, you can cut a bigger hole with a razor or if you want just cut the tape off from the wires and try to slide it down. I went with the easier approach. Just keep in mind that there are very fragile, thin, important wires there. Don't go to fast, and use a phillips. |
Good write up. so what are you going to run through there?

I am running a vac line whenever I get a gauge, and maybe some power wires if I decide to get an electronic exhaust cutout.
Here are some other ways I tried to get through. Over the wheel well lining. Maybe there is access to the cabin through here and behind the drivers’ side kick panel. No idea. Attachment 300919 Attachment 300920 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...l/100_0765.jpg This little grommet, I have heard, goes to the back rear of the glove box. I haven't fully explored this option either. It just seems like an unnecessarily long run for something like a boost gauge. Attachment 300921 |
Nice, thanks for the help. Second pic in the cabin is more helpful. THanks...
|
i went through behind the glove box, like the last pic you posted on the pass side of the car because i mounted my boost gauge/controller on that side of the car.
|
i went in behind the glovebox to..now that i seen that grommet pic i couldve saved a lot of wire
|
Tried the grommet spot, way to tight an area to fit my hands iin behind the gas pedal to even reach it. Plus I have electric gauges which require a little bigger hole.
The plug on the glove box side worked very nice. Easy to get to and easy to run the wires back up under the dash |
In the fourth picture, where is that located, i removed the dash and the radio yesterday but it wasn't what i was looking at. Is this under the driver side where the gas pedals are...
thanks |
awesome, this should help me alot
|
lol - both of these access points are impossible to get to in a RHD :(
|
very helpful, hopefully i'll have time this weekend to install a few defi gauges!

^ that one's a little hard from the engine side, but pretty easy in the car.
Pull the glove box, pull the panel on the right side of the passenger footwell, pull the sirius tuner unit, pull the carpet on the firewall, pull the grommet. |
