steering wheel trim
steering wheel trim
I've already painted the plastic trim on my recaros to match my OB car. I'm thinking about also doing the silver trim around the steering wheel. Has anyone does this? If you have can you post a picture? Also, should it be sanded first before painting?
I know I need to remove airbag, the wheel, the bluetooth, radio controls, and cruise to get that molding out. Any thing else I should know before removing it?

If I may ask, are you painting it yourself?
I have the JDM center console, but the shifter panel needs to be painted to match the other PB trim items (the shifter panel for GSR is only available in crosshatch).
I don't know whether to save the money and just buy a can of paint and do it myself or have it done at a shop.
Did you sand it first, or just paint right over the silver?

Anyone have instructions to actually remove the wheel from the car on an X?
I want to paint my trim but can't find anything on how it comes off.
Also, would plastidip be a good product to use here? I was thinking because it's rubbery it might be good, but worry about durability of finish.
Thanks.

I think either the black or 3M CF film would look good. I have the 3M film on my car, and I love the way it looks. It holds up really well to scratching, so I would think that the 3M film would be more durable than paint would be.
3M also makes glossy & matte black films, so if you like the all black look, you may want to look in to that since it would probably last better than paint would.
Just my .02

pretty easy, just did this recently when i swapped my steeringwheel out.
0. Make sure Steering wheel and wheels are straight.
1. Torx T27 to remove the airbag bolts on the sides of steering wheel
2. 17mm Deep for the center nut
3. Disconnected battery (+) side cable
4. Lift out airbag, there is the horn (black) connector and the airbag (yellow). Disconnect both to remove airbag
5. There is a grey connector on the circular connector in the middle under the center nut, disconnect that
6. MARK the steering column TOP center, lift out steering wheel.
7. do whatever u want to do.
8. reverse steps for installation.
as for plastidip, i would not as imho would be easily scratched with keys/fingernails/cellphone, etc unless you do like 8 coats.
good luck.
