Powder coating?
Powder coating?
Ok so we currently have flat black XXR 522s on the X, I would like to have them powder coated a bright color (havent decided which yet) but Im not 100% certain that they wont be destroyed when I take it to the track. Does anyone have experience with this? The flat black currently hides all of the brake dust and grime but the car itself is phantom black and with the black wheels im not 100% satisfied. I want some color. Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

Feedback:
1) Clarify what your question is (color input? Trackability? Why you bought such heavy rims?).
2) The search function is an acceptable and passive form of instant feeback to whatever your question really is.

Why don't you plasti dip one of your wheels to see if you're even going to like it? dipyourcar.com has all kinds of colors. I'm plastidipping my wifes wheels on her new outlander sport this weekend, amount of time and money spent:
2 hours
+-20 dollars
the feeling that I can take it off like tape if she doesn't want it anymore or doesn't like it. Priceless

powder coating is good only from a good powder coater. make sure there a reputable company that has experience coating wheels. The company I work for does a lot of powder coating and there are a lot of companys that aren't really good the coating chips very easily and cracks with time.
Noob so bear with me...
Ryan- not sure why the weight concerns you, they are my wheels, I asked about powder coating, not opinions on weight.
Hakmeister - appreciate the tip, Ill look into that, might be where I should start
zozek281 - Any recomendations on places in Atlanta?

When I mentioned here on this forum that I wanted to powdercoat my wheels, the comments were overwhelmingly against me doing so. Several people showed me their wheels that had had the spokes either crack or break from the powdercoating. Powdercoating will bake the wheels around 400 degrees and a lot of people say that is will cause annealing or embrittlement of the wheels. Until I heard this, I thought powdercoating was just a great way of changing color on wheels or other parts.
There are powdercoaters that will tell you it is safe. After getting conflicting information, I just went ahead and had my wheels plastidipped. They look great and I did it for about $20. I still prefer the look of powdercoated wheels, but I play things on the conservative side and didn't want to risk damaging my wheels.
OP, if you do PC, make sure to find a reputable company that has lots of experience doing wheels.

powder coating shouldnt get the wheel hot enough to anneal the metal I believe the temprature for powdercoating is 390 degrees and to anneal it needs to get up to 500 degrees or higher. Wheels should be fine to powder coat I had a set done and never had a problem. just my 2 cents
as for a reputable company in Atlanta I don't know I live in Cali. sorry
