Well, seeing as a few tail light projects have popped up (and apparently fizzled out), I thought I'd try it myself. I wanted the look of the RA tails, with my own little unique additions, but without spending money.

The problem with dremelling the housings open is that you get discoloration all along where you cut. They look horrible when you put it together:

My solution was to paint a black trim line around the outside of the lights. To get rid of the pink, I resorted to a coat of nightshades, even though I was trying to avoid it:

Great project for spare red tails after swapping out for RA tails too. I might try this out...

I prefer to keep lights stock looking as much as posisble, but looks clean on the black X.

i shelled out the 300 for RA's but this is a definite improvement over stock. How you did cover the holes for the wing?

looks nice. i don't like the stock lights but can't justify spending $300 for RA. this is a nice alternative :)
