Stud length Concern/Question

So I got a set of 18x9.5 volk LE37 +22. I tried test fitting them today and it seemed like the lugs just dont seem to have enough of the stud. I'm a little concerned that they aren't on there good enough and will create too much pressure on the middle part of the stud rather than the base where it would be stronger.

The stock lugs on the stock wheels seat pretty deep on the stud because the lugs are countersunk into the wheel. I am using some other lugs that have the bevel/conical shape. With these others and the volk rims I'm only able to get about 9 full turns on the aftermarket lugs (maybe like 9.5 turns after its torqued to 80). Does that seem right? I would think it'd need to be on there better than that. On the stockers its far more turns than 9.

Are extended studs recommended for a better seat on this other lug type? Or am I just being overly concerned. Thanks in advance.

minimum 4 full turns. As long as you're using the correct type of lugs (ie. "tuner" lugs) you're ok.

minimum of 4?? That seems low but if thats the case I'm just worrying too much I guess. I'm not sure the lugs I'm using are considered "Tuner" because I relate that to a set of $100+ name brand stuff, am I wrong? The ones I'm using are just some generic paper weights you'd expect to find at your local auto part store... they still a have the conical shape at the base and are 12x1.5

You need to be careful that they are not the lugs that work with stock wheels. Stock wheels and aftermarket wheels use a different seat.

Yeah, in general, 4 turns is the rule of thumb. Scares me too! But you're more than double that.

I'd mount the wheels, drive around and get some mild lateral Gs. Retorque later. Should be good to go. Can check the torque a few days later to ease your mind.

I would say beyond 4 turns, to have atleast 1/2 an inch of meat in the lug. anything less would be a concen.

Fyi, the studs are not stronger at the base. The studs are going to be similar strength throughout the length of the stud. You will have the same shear strength throughout the length unless the bolt diameter gets smaller. However, in terms of the force/stress on the threads which will hold the wheel to the hub/rotor, the more threads the better. You can get a more distributed load on the threads with more, to that 80 ft-lbs is distributed better, which is what you want.
