Sidewall Damaged - Advice?
I replaced the stock Yokohama tires with 4 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec's about 6,500 miles ago. Yesterday, I nailed the curb pretty good taking a chunk out of the front right tires sidewall, and doing some cosmetic damage to the wheel. I'm looking for options as I know it's important to keep all 4 tires wear relatively even and I don't want to risk driving on a damaged sidewall. From similar posts, it seems my options are to buy 1 tire, and have it shaved down or replace all 4. In addition to getting some advice, my question is if I buy 4 new tires (4 new Z1's), is it possible to re-integrate my current 3 tires back into the rotation cycle?
Is 6,500 miles enough wear to constitute buying 4 new tires?

The tires are worn pretty much what you would expect from a DD Evo with no track time with a little spirited driving here and there. I got 23,000 miles out of the OEM Yokohama's if that gives you a good idea...

To make a long story short I went to the goodyear shop I bought my tires at and he said they were ok, thank god. You should be ok

Based on looking at your tire. it looks as though the rip gets deeper and deeper as it goes on, I would not even consider driving at high speeds with that tire, If you just want to replace the one, the difference in the tires should be NO MORE than 2/32 of an inch, otherwise you could cause problems

purely cosmetic...albeit bad cosmetics but you should be just fine...drive on sir. If you just want peace of mind...measure the other 3 and if they are with 2-3/32nds...just buy a new one. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice thus far. I don't feel comfortable driving on the tire, and I definitely want to replace it just for the peace of mind. My plan of action as of now is to get the tread depth measured at a tire shop, and have Tire Rack shave down a new tire to match the existing 3. I'll let you guys know how it goes as I'm sure this situation comes up from time to time. It's so hard to buy a $200 tire and say "Yea, now I want you to take that brand new tire and add wear to it."
