Im looking for a coilover suspension kit for my evo x mr... any suggestions on brands to look at. I have had Tein in the past. Not intrested in Megan if they still make products like they did in the past. I havent been able to find much unless im missing it. Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of driving do you do? Track, auto-x, street?

What size and kind of tires do you run?

Mostly Highway/Street. But this car will see alot of track days along with a few auto-x.

Currently im running the stock tires and wheels. That was going to be one of my last changes after suspension, and basic mods to powertrain.

It'll be greatly effected by your budget. You'll want to determine that first, then what's more important to you. Handling on the track, or ride comfort on the street? You're gonna end up with a compromise between the two, so you'll need to determine which one's more important. Next would be adjustability. How much of it do you want? You want ride height, compression, and rebound, or just ride height, rebound...? As what was written, you'll need to make your tire selection first. Tires (both compound and size) will determine valving and spring rate. Pretty much at the same time, you'll wanna do an alignment, and probably get your car corner balanced, and get your camber(caster, toe) set. Once again, tire selection (model, compound, and size) will effect this setting.

Of course if you just want them for the bling factor, you don't really need to worry about any of it

i planned on sticking with the stock tire/wheel option at first. since i have the mr i like the bbs wheels, but not to say in the future i wont change them. i guess im just looking for a few coilover setups to start researching.. i want something with alot of adjustability because of the different driving i will be doing. i dont mind a stiff/firm ride either its an evo not a caddy

Just so you know, a stiff/firm ride doesn't always mean good handling. In fact we've found that the stiffer feeling set-ups out there are generally slower.

You should look into KW Variant 3, Ohlins DFV Sportline, AST 4100. IMO these are the top 3 out there short of the motorsports set-ups. Some people are happy with the cheap taiwanese/chinese stuff though.

You also might want to just stick with a set of good springs like Swifts for now until you get more serious about tracking or autocrossing the car.

I'd stick with the stock (good) suspension and tires until you reach a point where you can point to the weaknesses of the suspension. Then learn to drive the car, then see if you can point said weaknesses out.

That said, it's not the path I took... now I've got some bad habits to correct and I'll likely get slower to get faster.

That's a good plan on paper - improve the nut behind the wheel before throwing money at the suspension - but the stock EVO X suspension is very tall and very soft. Its just... gross.

stock EVO X MR suspension = lots of lean and camber loss!

We've taken our stock EVO X MR to some track events already and its just a big marshmallow - driving it is a bit of a beating, from all of the dive and rolling around. The EVO needs spring rate and damper improvements in a big way, plus the alignment benefit from adjustable camber/caster plates. The lack of camber and roll control from the stock suspension will wear your tires faster, so "staying stock" can cost more in tire expendables, at least. Not to mention the extra cost of motion sickness bags.

Hanchey already set the TTB track record at ECR with the stock EVO X suspension, just with mounting a set of Dunlop Star Specs, and he has enough laps on this track in this car to see the direct improvements when the new shocks + plates go on. We should have more details on our AST 4100 and 4200 suspension offerings in 1-2 weeks, plus our first production run of Vorshlag EVO X camber/caster plates. We have wrapped up initial development of new camber plates and AST shocks for 2008 STI and WRX set-ups and are concentrating on the EVO X now.

Well, we've been trying to get set-up as sponsors on this forum for months, and its finally in process. We have not posted much until we were finally "in the system", as it can ruffle feathers if you are a manufacturer that is posting anything w/o paying. My account still isn't set right - should be soon.

Vorshlag EVO 8/9 camber plates - Designed and built in the USA

We've made a lot of EVO parts already and have more Mitsu suspension products in the pipeline. Glad to see GTWorx here already!

Terry,

I saw a nice M3 this weekend with your camber/caster plates. Very nice looking.

And of course, I've seen Mark's Camber plates. I know Evo_Someday would be a willing tester of some camber plates on a stockish Evo VIII if you needed it ;-)

I thought I was first in line for some evo x product testing

Glad to see you guys developing for the evo!

Will there be sway bars?
Stock strut springs?
Camber plates for stock shaped springs or only 60mm springs?
Of course AST coilovers

Vorshlag does a great job on BMW products and if those products are any indication of the quality of their work and design, we are all in for a treat with our evo x's!!

(nice old school CCM classic's on the E36 BTW. Usually see those with black centers)
