Tire Opinion thread

Is there a thread that has feedback or opinion on various tires for the X?
I called tire rack and they suggested a couple.
I was looking for feedback on those and other tires. Any help would be great.
Looking for something with decent road noise and tread wear with out giving up a ton of handeling/traction. Its a Daily Driver-
Thanks.

Toyo R1R , good for 3/4 of the year , but not winter.
I would get that one and some decent snow tire wit narrower profile.
i think that is one of the best set up for street.

Potenza RE050A - I ran them on my 8 and my 9 a whole lot... Good tires, don't wear out fast at all (mine have been through hell and back and I finished them off with a trackday) and their grip in the dry&wet is awesome.

I'm in the process of buying an X now and the moment the summer hits, she's gettin RE050A's.

However... If you have snow around, don't even think of trying to drive around on those tires... Get another set of winters like Rob said.. I do it every winter (since we have a law in slovenia that we have to have winter tires on the car from november 15th to march 15th)

Hope it helps. Cheers!

thanks for the advice. I have winter rims/tires which I am on now. Yoko W-drive. Good, not great. Real quiet, great in light snow/rain, deep snow-not so great. handle ok when its dry but you can feel the slide when you give em hell in the corners.

I like the look of the toyos. Always a Bridgestone fan...
keep the feedback coming. I

Well, the area Bridgestone rep claimed that if a Ferrari comes with the RE050's from the factory then something MUST be good about them. I think they're geared more towards luxury vehicles since the G37's come with those tires from the factory.

I'd suggest the RE960PP which is an all season tire, but I don't know if they make it in a 245/40. Try the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and Continental Extreme DWS or whatever the hell the name is. I put a set on a G35 a few days ago and they actually look pretty good. They're high rated in light snow traction which is awesome for an all season tire.

Doesn't really exist....

You get lots of dry grip and you give up treadwear and pay for it. Ex: Dunlop Star Spec, Yoko AD08, Bridgestone RE-11 (top tier) Kumho XS, Nitto NT-05 (second tier)

Everything else is a compromise.

My wife's G35 came with the 050as and they kind of suck. They didn't last all that long either (about 17k miles). They certainly didn't have the grip the stock evo tires had.

I have the BFGoodrich KDW2 on my 8 and they are some good relatively cheap tires. I think they were 160 each from tire rack.

+1 on the Toyo R1R - stiff sidewalls with sticky tread - you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a little more tread life, consider the Toyo T1R - not as stiff and sticky as the R1R, but will last a bit longer. The Nitto INVO or the NT-05 would be other selections that you could consider - not as expensive as others, but perform well in wet and dry environments.
If you are planning to swap tires for the winter, one tire that I would recommend is the Falken RT-615. Although these tires find primarily track duty, my wife loved these tires on her bi-turbo Quattro Audi as a daily driver - she always felt secure with dry weather (especially in the corners) and in the wet weather.

there are quite a few better tires out there than the 615's. They are a very old compound design. This year Falken is releasing a 615K which is a new compound design, so we'll see...

I am also not sold on the soft sidewall toyos. I've also had really bad experiences with toyo tires wearing very poorly (not on the Evo, but on other heavy cars like SUVs). I personally won't buy another Toyo tire again.

You guys with the R1R's, what kind of milage you getting out of them? I got about 13k out of the Advans.
I am hoping for around 20K with the next set I buy.

Don't get the R1Rs. You'll get much worse tire wear than the stockers. All the autoxers complain about how horrible the tirewear is. Superb grip and a little sloppy sidewall stiffness but fast....

I got 13k miles out of the Advans, I don't think it gets much worse for a DD tire.

Any other suggestions? Some one said there is a tire review thread. I can not find it. "Searched"...noob

We can close the thread. Tire Rack was hyping up this Dunlop sport Max TT. It was a good price so I am giving them a shot. The Rack has not failed me yet. I will let you know how they turn out in the spring!
