Pro-kit and bump stops - what to cut?

Ive read through the debate on whether or not you should cut your bump stops and decided to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and cut. Problem is, the instructions that come with the springs arent very specific.

It appears they want you to cut from the top of the bump stops. Problem is, the top part is narrow on the inside so it stays in place on the shock assembly. If you cut the top part off, the bump stop drops to the bottom and might rattle around. Or maybe the dust shroud wont do as good of a job.

Should you cut from the bottom instead? If you removed the dust shroud and trimmed from the bottom of the bump stop it would still stay in place while giving the shock extra travel. Or thats my thought, anyways.

So people who trimmed their bump stops - where did you remove material from? And how much for that matter?

It is right. Whenever you cut, should be 1/2" from top, but guess either side would be fine. You'll see on here that people cut them in 1/2..... They don't read well. You can go up to an inch, but no more. Just measure with tape measure. Cut with hack saw.
