Which Tires?

Hey guys,

I've been searching the boards/google but can't find much.

I'm going to be putting on some new wheels, 18x9.5 te37 Black Edition. Along with some new rubber, pretty sure I'm going to go with either 265/35/18 or 275/35/18.

Which brings me to my question. Which brand of tires to get... I never track, pure street (No snow, rarely rains). I'd like a good combination of Handling & Life.

Was thinking maybe Michelin Pilot maybe? What do you guys think?

Thanks!

We just put on a set of Pilot Super Sports on same size wheel last week so far love them. Since you are street only it rides pretty smooth and has a ton of grip if you ever need it.

i went with a set of michelin pilot supersports in 265/35 recently. i'm happy with them so far.

compared to the stock advan a13c, the PSS is a much smoother and quieter ride around town. the trade off is the steering does not feel as responsive due to the softer sidewall. it is still quite capable and does feel like a performance minded tire so it's not a devastating blow as other has described when they switched to the hankook v12 evo.

with a 300 treadwear rating (subjective, i know) and a 30k mile warranty, it should have much better longevity.

i know you said you dont care about rain, but when it rains hard in the metroplex, it builds up fast. the PSS has been terrific and confidence inspiring in the rain. the advans in heavy rain made the car feel skittish. i never got out of shape but i recall a specific highway drive in heavy rain where the car felt floaty and was moving around in it's lane.

despite all that, all reports is that the tire is supposed to perform well on track. i wont know till around april or may.

I can't say enough good things about the Pilot super sports. Best tires I've had on my cars. The 30k warranty is nice but if you get maybe 50% treadlife out of them then you get the next set for 50% off. They basically prorate your tread wear percentage off the cost of the new set.

I ran S. Drives in the 275/35/18 for around 3 years and 40k miles. Great tire all around, sticks nice and does well in rain. Although as they do wear down they start to howl.

Well I tried to get a set of the Michelin's but they told me they were gonna have to order, and I don't really wanna wait.

Gonna try a set of the BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2. I'll let you know how I like em!

I have the Yokohama Advan AD08s and they're the best tire Ive ever purchased. A little pricey, but definitely worth it

I suggest a 265 for a 9.5" wheel. Check the tire specs regarding best rim width.

Yeah they were way cheaper than tirerack and discount tire. I found them by googling them and they popped up on the ads on the right of my screen for $200 a peice. $90 shipping for me but there coming from Cali which is on the opposite side of the country.

Wish I had known about this website before ordering my PSS's. Stock size were $1,022 shipped from TireRack and will be $952 after the rebate. However, I ordered Saturday and they arrived Tuesday. From DE to PA is a short ride so I know UPS wasn't tossing them around too much, could be a different story all the way from CA.

To the OP, with the amount of good reviews I've read on the PSS it seems like it's an excellent choice, otherwise everyone has been lying and I'm in for a huge disappointment come Spring once they're mounted....

Seeing as you went with the COMP-2's do be sure to post a review because I was also considering them but wanted a tire that's been around a bit longer.
