Excessive tire wear

Anybody noticed how agressive the front alignment is setup? At 8K miles I noticed the inside tread lug wearing out. The dealer checked the specs and they are correct. I am not gonna be road racing this car. Anybody know what better front end geometry would be to level out the caster adjustment and get more miles out of tires? Thanks in advance....

Um... go do a couple autocrosses! My fronts are worn out on the outside edges at 4k miles. Insides look ok.

which side seems to have more wear?

So what are the specs on your current alignment? It would not surprise me if you had a little toe-out. On my VIII, I'm running almost -3 degrees of camber up front with zero toe and getting pretty even wear across the tire; granted, I corner pretty hard :p

Yea, check the toe. The dealer probably just lied, or their "correct specs" are a huge range. Camber does very little wear compared to toe, so I would go get a second opinion, and realign for 0* toe all around.

Right on the money, I have -2.0 F/-1.0 R camber for me after lowering the car but zero toe all around. Car still handles and turns like a monster with the swaybar so I'm enjoying the tire friendly zero toe settings. Even a 1/16" toe out can do some noticeable wear and the dealer will claim "In spec" but it's on the more aggressive side.

I just put new wheels and tires and noticed the center of my front tires had more wear than the rear ones... i have 5k on my car

center wear likely indicates over inflation.

Hello all, i am experiencing excessivetire wear too, i have only 2300kms on my EVO X GSR and i am using it as every day car, i never go race or track or drag strip, i just used launch control 3 times and my rear tires are completely gone slicks. Usually, since i have my car, if i go highway for at least 30 minutes with an average speed of 70 mph when i stop on the side of the road, if i get out of the car i can smell the rubber heated as if it would have been racing on a track.

The dealer told me they have adjusted alignment on every EVO they sell and they told me they couldn't do anything for that, i am very disapointed.

Wow. Stay away from the water puddles. Hydroplane!! {OMG}

evox_ Oct 27, 2008 11:20 PM

I had to get new tires at 8k, but I'm sure if I didn't do any auto crossing I could have gotten about 10k miles out of them... Don't expect much with a treadwear of 140....

Jammo Oct 28, 2008 07:54 AM

I forgot to say excessive wear happens to rear tires, front tires looks normal with 75% of tread wear remaining.

REDEVO08 Oct 28, 2008 08:55 AM

OMG thats crazy wear..i have over 17000 and my tires arent even close looking like that..Thats got to be a bad batch of tires or something

goofygrin Oct 28, 2008 09:32 AM

What's your air pressure in those tires? Worn in the center like that, to me, indicates too much air...
