Rear alignment adjustment problems

Whats up Evo x associates:

Ill keep this short.

Got to the local STS to get an alignment, 20 min's into the process the service rep said there seems to be a problem..

Bringing me into the garage, and under my evo, he showed me that the rear TOW and CAMBER adjustment "disks" (or what ever their formal names are) would not move because they seem to be "stripped". The bolts were moving within the disks, but not actually making any changes to the tow/ camber. All four bolts in the back had the same problem

The rep said hes seen MAYBE a few cases of this...

I had my alignment done 1 other time at a different STS location.

Any clue as to why the hell that happened? Has anyone else incurred the same problem?

Ill be going to my local mitsu dealership tomorrow, hoping they have some in stock.

Thanks

Found this thread: Same Issue, No Solution.

One or two stripped cams ... that I can buy. All four cams stripped at the same time? I don't buy it. Either they were turning the nut instead of the bolt or someone - not necessarily them - messed them up via incompetence.

Those bolts strip at the nut often, good idea to have a few new ones on hand anytime you go in for an alignment.

just as a heads up careful with the alignment guys they tend to screw up badly especially if they have never worked on a evo.

mine was stripped and they didn't let me know!

here is the thread I started:

although this is kinda gung ho the permanent fix is to get the whiteline rear control arms for the toe issue side.

the other 2 bolts i would just get replaced.

This is what i was thinking - How could one (service guy) go about stripping ALL FOUR eccentrics without noticing?

Ive been reading a few other threads about forum members having the same problems, but i dont understand why they're so frail.. Would it work if the guys lifted the car, then did the alignment so there isnt so much pressure on the eccentric?

I think the other STS stripped mine, then proceeded to give my car back to me like nothing happened. Not to be biast but the car was aligned in an area thats, say, not the best.

well those eccentric bolts are probably one of the worst design parts of our car.
flimsy and the rabbit ears are not even beefy like other mfg make them.

Just be careful man and double/triple check their work.

I had to spend an extra $400 ( control arms , plus the repairs to the frame and labor). When it was not necessary.

I get all my alignment done now at a place thats about 1 hour from here.. But at least I know they work on SCCA cars , etc.

Thats the one in the picture you posted above.

Then ill probably also have to order 24, 25, 26, 27? for the toe arm

- BTW: I appreciate the quick feedback.

Black&Boostin Mar 8, 2013 09:38 AM

As a little update -

I ordered 4 sets of the bolt, washer and nut assembly for each camber and toe arm. Ill be bringing the car to get fixed / aligned Monday at a REPUTABLE shop.

Lesson Leanred:

Dont make the mistake of going to a cheap alignment shop. I learned from my mistake - Go somewhere thats got a good reputation.

pepin10 May 18, 2013 05:52 PM

did you ever get ur alignment fixed? i just came across that problem while doing my alignment. i had it done somewhere and they stripped one. i had done a couple alignments before without any issues. so i bought a new washer installed it and as i was doin the alignment it just stripped. so did the other side toe. both rear cambers were fine though.

denlin68 May 28, 2013 10:42 PM

what happens when the bolt is stripped ? u cant get the alignment u want ?

FastAttack May 29, 2013 12:56 PM

you won't be able to align your car..

you can get the bolts for cheap though and I would buy 2 for safety sakes.
