Help me pick a tire

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to the AWD world and just purchased an 08 EVO GSR jsut over a month ago.

Winter is slowly dying here and my ContiWinterContact TS 810 Sport tires need to be swapped out with some summer tires.

The summer tires will be mounted on the stock wheels.

I'm just having a really hard time deciding on what tire is best for me.

So far I've read about the Hankook V12's, the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and now the Continental DW.

I'm so far leaning towards the DW's as the price is nice and the review's are great.

I've read that the V12's have soft sidewalls and I don't want to impede the performance of this car so not too sure if this is the best tire for me.

The Michelin's have great reviews but are a lot more money. Are they that much better than the DW's?

Basically what I'm looking for is a good tire that will perform well, is somewhat quiet on the road and something that wont cause an overly harsh ride like the ultra performance tires out there.

I think the V12's are out only because of the complaints about the sidewalls. I dont want to spend a grand only to be disapointed.

So I'm thinking the DW's for their good ratings and their price or the PSS because of their great ratings. I just dont know if they are worth the extra money compared to the DW's.

I've seen this same thread pop up with the same exact tires of choice asking 'Which One is Best'....did you try searching?

I've searched but never was able to find a PSS vs DW thread.

I think I've already talked myself out of the V12's. I have read threads about them. Some people love them and some people hate the soft sidewalls. I don't want to regret spending over a grand on tires.

I am literally in the same exact boat right now.

PSS hands down unless budget is a concern.

Go with the PSS! Great street tire.

If it's within the budget, the I would run SS's all day long. Combination of great dry/wet, ride, warranty, etc makes the the best tire in their class. However, for the price that DW does a really nice job. Those are kinda the hidden gem amongst their class. Unfortunately they are usually on backorder for extended amounts of time.

I did some more reading from this site as well as others and it does seem the PSS's are better in all categories other than tire wear but not by much.

Tire rack has the DW's for $150 per tire whereas the PSS are $235 per tire. That's quite the difference :/

The PSS's are in my budget but are they that much better than the DW's at that price?

Maybe I'm just cheap lol.

OP, I took this poll not too long ago:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...00-budget.html

PSS's are sitting in my basement waiting to be mounted in a week or so. After some extensive reading and some reassurance from EvoM members it was a no-brainer. The Michelin's are not necessarily the tire for someone with less $$$ to spend but I'll gladly pay a bit extra to get 30,000 miles out of a performance tire.

Thanks for the info :)

V12's are $1000 with taxes and mounted on my stockers.
PSS's are $400 more taxes and mounting in.

For the extra 400 and the amount of positive reviews out there on the PSS's I think I should just bite the bullet and order them.

Thanks all!

Assuming OP needed a set for dd only then I'd recommend either Hankook V12 or BS RE760S.

Yokahama AD08's and never look back. Sticks like glue and much prettier than the pilots. I have 10k on mine now with a lot of canyon runs and no sign of giving up on me.
