275 vs 265 tires and best wheel width
 

Initially I was considering going 275 x 10.5 and after some research found a lot of people move down to 265's. Appears to be various reasons - wider is worse for standing water, weight/aero reduces performance, overall feel, etc. Most of these posts are from ~2012.

Is there that much difference between the two in terms of performance? I understand that the 265 'may' require rear fender rolling and the 275 will - I'm not concerned about that assuming the rolling will allow lock to lock on 275's with no rubbing issues whatsoever.

In terms of wheels, some recommend going to a 10" wheel as it can accommodate both 265 and 275 width tires nicely.

Car will be on Ohlins R&T and is NOT a daily driver - but it's not a dedicated track car. Summer street car with occasional track use. Favor performance over comfort and bling.

I would say stick to 9.5 wide wheel and 265 wide tires. Less weight, plenty if grip, and lots of options with those sizes to choose from. Also assuming you are talking 18's, 265/35/18 is a very close diameter to stock. Just my opinion and what I would do if I was to get wider wheels and tires on the Evo.

I'm running 275/35 18" on 9.5 " wheels. It's a perfect fit IMO. THE 275's give you the same rolling diameter as the stock wheels. I'm using hankook Rs3, which I think have fairly rounded edge, whereas tyres like Yoki AD08 are squarer so more chance of fouling the guards.

Zash - why did you decide on 9.5" vs 10" or 10.5"? Do they bulge on a 9.5"?

i have a 9.5 wide rims and 275 35 tires. The rear did needed some minor rolling and the front some fender liner repositioning so as the rear. Fender liner mod approx. 5 minutes around and the fender rolling in only at the back on the top only.

The 9.5 rims with 265 40 tires for me before didn't needed any mod, but it was a very little rubbing in the front.

I'm on 10" and put 285/30/18 on this past summer...couldn't be more happy with the grip...you do have a higher chance of hydroplaning but once you are above a sub 200 tire its all the same you will feel it regardless...im debating going with 295 next time b/c looking at the tire/wheel now it doesn't look like it will mushroom at all still.

Depends on tire brand a lot. For ex. The federal 595rsr 265/35/18 honestly looks more like a 275. just my .02

I have 275/35s on 18x10.5 wheels and I like the fit and grip. I would (and previously did) go with a 265 on 9.5 rims. Unfortunately I had a catostraphic tire failure and cracked one of those rims and couldn't get a replacement in the right color (thanks rota). I could definitely fit more tire on the 10.5 rims... But 275/35 is almost exactly stock diameter so I went with pilot super sports in that size. Awesome tires.

I gotta see some pics of that setup.

OP: 275 will be meaty but yours looks pretty decent man! {thumbup}

If you want a perfectly square tire / wheel setup:

Tire Width in mm = (Wheel Width in inches + 1) * 25.4

So put your Tire Width in, and then figure out what Wheel Width you need.

Rob, on your setup. What offset are your wheels?

I want to go with the same type of setup but unsure what offset. I have seen threads say go with +15 with 18x9.5 and others with +20 or +22

im running enkei rpf1s 18x9.5 +15 and if fits perfect. usually a +22 works better with a 10.5 inch wheel, like the te37s.
