Evo tires for daily
 

Hey guys, been looking for some new tires for the car, but been getting stuck between nitto motivos and advans but i'll be daily driving in NY so the roads are complete 💩. Any recommendations would be great or some things to look for when deciding. Running stock suspension. Have advan A13C 245/40-18 at the moment.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport, Michelin PS4S, BFGoodrich GForce Sport Comp2, all great tires.

The stock Advans only have a treadwear rating of 180, so any of the tires mentioned above are going to run longer for you and probably be just as suitable on NY roads. Part of the Advan's special sauce is a stiff sidewall, which really helps with turn-in. I'm running Pilot Super Sports as my DD summer tire and they've been great as replacements. I'd steer clear of the Nittos based on my personal past experiences.

Are the Super Sports louder at highway speeds than the OEM Advans?

I'm looking at the Firestone Indy 500's, heard good things, but they seem hard to get these days. Tirerack had them for like $470 after rebate 5 months ago, now they're $600.

The Super Sports are one the quietest summer tires you can get. Will def be quieter than the Advans.

I would never put firestone tires on my car. They're just subsidiary of Bridgestone, but they have an even higher tendency to have tread and belt edge separation issues.

The Firestones are almost $300 cheaper though, and might have a longer tread life though aren't as sticky.

Sacrifice quality for price.

The BFG's and Continental are least comparable quality to the Michelin's if you concerned about cost.

So why is Firestone as a company bad? Are their tires sub par? They get good reviews from places like tirerack and from their user reviews.

Which Conti's are good? I'm looking for something quiet on the highway with decent enough grip. I'd probably want a stiff sidewall like the OEM Advans.

Well, the roads are bad in the city, but the rest of the state is actually not bad at all.

Here's a current tire steal: Pirelli run flats in 275/35-18. Tire rack has these on close out (that size only) for about $100 each. Normal price is about $270. They are 2013 vintage, but are perfectly fine from the way they stored these.

So, keep the OEM 8.5" wheels for winter tires. Buy cheap Rotas in 9.5 X 18 with the 22 offset. Offset is key here for fitment. Wheeldude has these for $1000. Many styles. They will source the tires from tire rack. Mounting is no charge. Only 1% smaller than 245/40 circumference.

As you can guess, this is exactly what I did. My first 275/35 set was Dunlop Direzza, which seemed just as good as the Advans, lasted about 50% more, but were much louder. I have the Pirellis now. Again, performance seems unchanged. Noise is much less. Initial wear after about 8,000 miles looks about the same as the Dunlops.

I'm seriously thinking of buying another set of Pirellis for two years from now, when I will need a new set. I live close enough to tire racks CT warehouse, and if you pick up they credit $10 per tire.

The Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R's are pretty awesome & worth considering. Wear pretty well & suprisingly grippy for a road tyre, popular in the "street class" time attack etc.

Not OP but I ended up buying the Continentals.

The sidewall is noticeably softer than the A13C's but that's probably expected. But these tires are so frigging quiet. Honestly, driving on the Advans, I was convinced I had bad wheel bearings. There was a noise and vibration even going 15mph. With the Contis, it's like you're driving on glass. They also absorb bumps a lot better.

They don't corner as well though. You'll feel the back end move on you mid corner in longer sweepers, where the rear end seems to squat down a bit and move, whereas the Advans just kept you on rails. But the turn-in is still very good. I'll just have to learn how they behave. Haven't even verified that the dinguses at Firestone put in the right pressure.

The Conti's are in a different performance group than the A13c's. So you should expect less grip. The trade off being the reduced NVH, and longer tread life.

I am a big fan of the Conti's. On my second pair. The first pair lasted 45k. They are certainly not as stiff as the OEM tire, but tires don't hold me back at the track. My skill does.
