i dont see how a properly installed timer would in any way hurt the car... all it does is make the car think the key is still in the ignition for a few minutes after hard driving. the whole point of a turbo timer is to let the turbo cool off while circulating oil through it (which lubricates & cools the turbo along with coolant). it also helps keep the oil from getting "cooked" by sitting inside a hot turbo for too long.

though i have heard a decent amount of arguments about turbo timers not being necessary with a water&oil cooled turbo, i have never heard anything about a TT being harmful to the car. though i did do some searching, and found that it is true that the engine immobilizer function is sidestepped with a TT, but i don't think it poses a security risk as the TT makes the ECU think the key is still in the ignition, but doesn't have any function to make the ECU think someone is turning the key to start the car. but still, this is far from something that will hurt the engine/turbo.

THe only way it will hurt the car is if it is improperly installed( short circuit or fire), or if the ebrake ground is not hooked up and some dummy leaves it in gear and the car jumps into a curb. Ironically, i used to always leave the car in gear when parked until i got my evo and put in a turbo timer.

I remember that thread as well and the original poster was wrong. The thread was about greddy turbo timers hurting the computer, when the info that was out there was that there were known issues with the greddy ignition modules ( I don't recall the model though). The TT harness is a simple reduntant ignition loop and it should be fairly non invasive and not hurt the car in any way.
YMMV,
Greg

^^ this guy is correct (the guy at the top of page 2)...most of you are incorrect...you dont need a turbo timer to let the car or turbo "cool" down...

when you are boosting, the turbine can spin upwards of 100,000 rpm...oil is fed into the turbine bearing to lubricate it...if you spool the car up and then immediately cut it off, your oil pump will also shut off...your turbine wheel will continue to spin, but there will be no oil circulating...over time the turbine will fail

as long as you dont spool the turbo directly before you shut the car off, you do not need a turbo timer...it doesnt really matter how long or how hard you drive the car...its just the few minutes before you shut the car off that matter

if you were running the car that hard for 3 hours daily... youd have other parts to worry about instead of just the turbo..

The reason this whole thing was brought up is because some mitsu shop said they had had 4 evos detonate on cyl 4 that were running tt's. This is a complete load and have already stated my opinion on this shop once already, but thats not here nor there. After I read that post I did some research. I am a 12 year master installer and have put in bookos of tt's with no prob. They tried to say that when you turn off key and tt stays on most people do not hook up the acc wire becuase your keyless entry will not work if you do. They said that this causes a voltage drop which is completely untrue. There is in no way shape or form any way for this to happen. I even went as far as to go into alldata at my work and trace every wire from computer. The acc wire in the car does not power anything of importance. Keep your turbo timer and enjoy, its about the only thing mitsu will not void a warranty for. That should tell you right there. And btw this shop also said that greddy knows of this problem and has a new harness coming out to fix it?? I called my greddy dealer and they have never heard of this problem. I do not even use the harness, its only 1 ign wire, 1 12v, speed sense, ebrake, and ground. Just do it with no harness. It'll save you 20 bucks and less likely to fail as long as you solder.

and to inform everyone the immobilizer only reads when the car is started. While using the starter the ecu sees 1 resistance and after you release and it goes back to the run position it sees the run resistance. After less than a second of seeing this second resistance the immobilizer shuts down and doesnt reset until ign is turned off.
