Sup, I was thinking of making somekind of adapter to hold the gas cap to the 'flap door'. The paint may get scratch with it dangling by the plastic strap during windy days. I guess it would be a waste since it will stay on there if you wedge it to corner and turn it slightly.

That is the wrong way to secure it. The cap has flanges for this exact purpose. The way the OP has it, it looks like it might eventually damage the threads.
