Exclamation Modifications Questions.

Hi guys, well im new to this forum and to me it looks fantastic from my point of view with all the kinds of people in it. Well I have a couple of questions that are bugging me right now, I used to own an S14 w/ an SR that my friend and I swapped in. He did most of the work and I learned from it, I know how to install basic things like Intake, Exhaust, parts of suspension (strut bars, coils). Although I haven't got too risky and done the clutch or fuel or even eletronics, reason being, didn't want to mess up the only car I had by messing with the transmission, engine and electronics.

So my question is, with the Evo its very easy to produce numbers but then there are some supporting mods that you will probably need of course when you reach a certain limit (fuel, electronics, clutch). Now how hard is it to install such things like, clutch, fuel (injectors, fuel rail) and electronics with the basic knowledge I have? What are some of the recommended tools? I've looked at automotosports and have really looked into their stage 1, 2, and 3 packages. But im just wondering what the difficulty is going to be, and what problems I might run into.

Thanks guys, I just want to be safe with the Evo once I buy it and be safe when modifiying it. cheers!

You may be able to figure out injectors and fuel rail, but I don't think you'll be able to do the clutch. That is one helluva job for an experienced mechanic, but even moreso for someone who only knows how to do basic bolt-ons (this includes me, so don't feel bad).

Thanks Warrtalon, I like your packages looks great, how does the power feel at 341whp in your VIII? Sorry for the questions but who tuned your SAFC, or did you do that by yourself? And about alchohol injection..im kinda new to that, how does it all work and where do you typically install it?

Yeah, the packages are great - simple, reliable, cheap, and fast. The 341whp/361wtq is with the addition of the alky and some ported/coated exhaust parts from Buschur Racing, but the times you see are with just the packages and then the SAFC on race gas. I tuned it myself at the track after adding the race gas. I've been doing it for a while, so I know how to get it right.

The 341whp feels nice, but the best part is the 361wtq, because that's what I feel in the seat of my pants every time I hit the boost. It feels awesome. The alky injection sprays atomized alcohol into the upper intercooler pipe right before the throttlebody, which causes the alcohol to evaporate instantly, which causes a great cooling effect. This cooling effect along with the alcohol itself allows you to run a lot higher boost while on pump gas and also allows you to run more aggressive timing, both of which give a lot more power.

Here's the link to my write-up:

Alky

Bump, incase anyone else has any useful information that I might need.

Oh yeah if I wanted buschur or Automotosports to do the work and I pay labor for the parts, would I just send them the car if its out of state and pay by credit card or cash? Or how does that work?

Send them the car??? What do you mean send them the car? If you buy parts and need them installed, then you go to a local shop and have them installed. It's great if you can go to Buschur or AMS, since they are both great, but people don't usually send their cars or drive really far for basic installs.

You may want to consider getting a BR330 or BR350 IX, because then it comes with all the parts already, including tuning, and it has the factory warranty in tact:

Oh, if you were talking about doing a stroker and huge turbo, then yeah, drop that bastard off at Buschur Racing and let them work their magic.

But thats what im wondering, I might be moving to Northern Nevada and I have no clue if their is any shops up there. Thats why im sticking to "bpu" modifications. But anyways yeah I think I'll do simple mods first, just like yours. Thanks for a pleasant welcome!
