acd, ayc, wtf
OK, I have a Jetta GLS

And I'm planning on getting an evo, but I would really love to know what the **** AYC and ACD are. Here are my understandings:
AYC - Active Yaw Control - Only comes in UK/JDM cars and controls the traction electronically to wheel corners. For example, Make a hard right and the power goes to the left front and rear tires to give a better apex. Yes, no? So if I have this right it is NOT adjuxtable in the cabin, it is inevitably on and always trying to guess what you are doing, the reason many take it out, also because it is illegal to use on many sanctioned events.
ACD - Active Center Differential? - It comes in all evo's, starting in the VIII, maybe even the VII? Has switch in the cabin for tarmac, wet, and gravel? Controls the ratio of torque being distributed between the front two wheels and the back two? Would like to know the ratios in each setting.... Also are there aftermarket accessories that can make this even more customizable, like inbetween ratios? And Tarmac is more power to the rear, dirt is more or less even, and wet is more frontal?
Correct if I'm wrong on anything, I've been searching all over for answers and don't really get any... So thanx for the help.

ACD wasn't available until 05 on USDM Evos.
It does not change the torque split. It simply changes the point at which the center diff unlocks/locks when turning under power. Evos always have a 50/50 split front/rear.
No comment on the Jetta.

thanx for the wonderful insight...
any other "help"
What is the thing that gives more power to the rear wheels then? I know it exists
AYC - Active Yaw Control (corrections)
controls power distribution between both rear wheels only. it is not illegal at events, but owners take it out because it breaks too easily and requires frequent fluid changes. however, from what i read, it is an awesome system. not adjustable.
ACD - Active Center Differential (corrections)
it has been in the evo since the 7's but didn't come to the US until 05. there is nothing that gives more power to the rear wheels.

thanx for the info.....well then.....what is the whole tarmac/wet/dirt thing? am i getting mixed up with the STi?
sti's thing is different. from the factory, they get more power to the rears. they have adjustment inside, and all it does is increase or decrease the "probability" more power will be sent to the rear wheels. they also have a cool featuer where you can "lock" all 4 wheels.
as for the acd

Well I have experience with AYC and yes the system does work. Is is worth it? In my opinion NO. Since it will never be on USDM Evo's don't even worry about. And if it happens to show up on the all great X get it with out it.
AYC is illegal in all "professional" events. Regular test'n tune, auto-x, or trackdays it's fine. Anything past that and it is illegal.

The ACD unit itself is simply a wet clutch that couples the front and rear drivelines. When the clutch is wide open, the center diff acts just like any standard open diff. When the clutch is clamped down, then the front and rear drivelines are effectively locked together and will spin at exactly the same speed. The ACD computer will modulate the amount of clutch action to get varying amount of front/rear driveline coupling. My guess would be that Tarmac mode has the least amount of coupling because when cornering, the difference in speed between the front and rear drivelines will cause tire skidding if the front and rear drivelines are too strongly coupled.
