Glad you posted, because that gives me a chance to tell you in advance to search before asking any questions. It is a forum rule to search before making a thread, and I would be there's nothing you plan to ask that hasn't already been answered 100 times. If you search for hours and don't find the answer to a complicated question, then hit us with it.
Welcome to EvoM, and great choice on the 05 Evo.
Welcome to EvoM, and great choice on the 05 Evo.
looks like I made it home alot sooner than i thought hehe. my last appointment for today got cancelled
so here goes.
im about 1 paper away from buying a 2005 EVO with 6k miles. Im also selling my 2004 dodge srt-4 and been parting off the pieces in hopes of using it on my new project. the parts i have that i want to go on my evo are:
SAFCII
Greddy Full Auto turbo timer
RC 750CC injectors
TurboXS Manual Boost Controller
AGP 50 trim turbo w/ 76trim exhaust side .63AR
Turbonetics Evolution 38mm external wastegate
AEM UEGO wideband o2 kit
Greddy Type S BOV
Apexi N1 Muffler
from the research i have done already it seems the next main pieces to complete my own "stage 1" for the car would be hard intercooler pipes, T3/T4 Manifold w/ correct wastegate size, and a 3" o2 housing. I have friends in the exhaust bidnis to make me a 3" downpipe and 3" pipe all the way to my muffler
other than opening up the motor, what mods am i missing here? I wont do clutch work untill the stocker goes out and I really want to see how the EVO would handle these mods without cams & adjustable cam gears
also, what is the average HP rating on the stock intercooler? i know the stock intercooler on an EVO is pretty decent and flows well but id like to know about what is its limit?
anyhoo, thanks for taking the time to read my thread. please help me

that looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I recommend not trying to use that SRT-4 turbo on your Evo, nor any of those other mods you have. The only thing I'd use on the Evo would be the wideband and the muffler, since you said you have friends who can make the rest of your exhaust.
I highly recommend NOT using:
- SAFC
- AGP 50-trim built for an SRT-4
- 750cc injectors unless you do actually end up installing a bigger turbo
- External wastegate
- Greddy Type S
- TXS MBC (terrible on the Evo)
If you really are going to take the route of using that turbo not designed for the Evo, then you'll just have to suffer through it all, but if you take a proven Evo modding route, then you'll be a happy man.
That clutch will not last anytime with those mods, and it's unbelievably senseless to go through all the trouble to add that turbo yet keep the cams stock. You got everything backwards here.

basically what warr is trying to say is look at his or my sig. That will get you on the right path.
You can also add cams, gears, IC pipe kit, mini battery kit, custom flash, alky smc kit, and 02 housing and you will definitely be in the 11's. I would also recommend highly to upgrade the clutch

not really forgetting anything
the main supporting mods for my oil only cooled turbo are listed above. injectors, hardpipes, tuneability, efficient BOV that releases quick. since the EVO is already on a big16g turbo, i doubt i would really need a fuel pump since i wouldnt really be taking my turbo past 24psi(im not a fan of race gas) my srt-4 came with a warlboro 190lph stock. id be shocked if the EVO didnt have the same or better.
I took my pos 14 second srt-4 down into the low 12s on street tires and a stock clutch. before my neon, i took my 20g automatic TSI AWD into the 11s. it really doesnt take much supporting mods to get a big turbo at high boost. it wont take 10,000 credits from grand turismo to do it heh
though the 50trim kit was built for an srt4, a turbo is a turbo. what made it an "srt4 kit" is the exhaust manifold and the wastegate dump tube. no difference in the turbo at all. its a turbonetics compressor side with a garret exhaust side. fairly common 50trim
I come from a small line of 1g and 2g DSMs and am fairly knowledgable with the 4g6x motors and what it takes to get them to move. though the srt4 made me lose a couple years of exp from having to deal with complete bull**** that dodge made, i think i can manage building an AWD again. i just wanted some user input and thank you for your constructive criticism

We upgrade the stock fuel pump on the stock turbo with light mods on pump gas running 22psi. You will definitely need one - just the regular Walbro 255 like we do with DSMs, but you don't have to do the fuel pump rewire.
You can run mid-11s on your 05 with all the bolt-ons and street tires. If you must use this 50-trim, then good luck.

why would you recommend me not using an SAFC to tune? would a reflash be better in a big turbo application because of the EVO ecu not taking to piggybacks very well?
i know my neon pcm didnt like the safc at all as i was constantly fixing my tune.

The flash will be limited only by your maf. But I have heard peopel on custom flashed attain over 500whp.
well the way ive always tuned my cars (datalogging widebands with SAFCs) i start turning up the boost until i get to the point where i am pulling minimal % out of the SAFC. its always easier to pull than it is to add with any piggyback lying to a ECU heh
I could see the fuel map reflash being helpfull at the normal 3krpm WOT pulls where your AFRs always dip down into the 9-10s no matter how much you try to pull with your SAFC. but on the bad side of that. im not always driving the same way. i like to go from a dig and a 3k rpm pull. so some sort of self tunability should be there in my mind. good thing to think about tho, thx

The SAFC would be a terrible choice especially on a big turbo. It is the most crude tuning device in existence, and it only manipulates AFRs. You have no control over timing, no launch control, no change in rev limit, fuel cut, etc. You don't have to get a flash, but you'd make a good bit more power, have a smoother powerband, and get all those great features - kinda like what we used to get on the TMO chips.
You can also self-tune with a flash using EcuFlash. There is nothing an SAFC can give you that a flash can't give you X10. There is no need to have different tuning for going from a dig or from 3k, not to mention the fact you won't be moving at 3k on that 50trim. It will be around 5000rpm before you get to full boost probably unless it's a ball bearing 50-trim, then it will be around 4500.

if i can get full spool on my non ball bearing 50trim at like 3400rpm on a 2.4l neon with a large 24x12x4.5 intercooler. i see no reason why it wouldnt full spool on a 2liter EVO at 4k or less.
this is why im here asking opinions. getting good advice from people who have already tried it all. I have unlimited amounts of time to change my setups and if the SAFC wont cut it fixing my Air fuel ratio on the evo. off to something bigger and better. if the 50trim wont work out it wouldnt take more than a day to rip it out and put the big16g back in
Getting advice from you guys is like opening up an encyclopedia evolution
dont worry about hurting my feelings, tell me how it is and why you think that. im not some kid who will get butt hurt if someone doesnt like my ideas, im here to actually get some help updating my idea to something that would work, not try to show it off heh

Well I am glad you are willing to learn. However, the flash would be the most optimistic casue you can now switch to different maps on your laptop. So its like basically tuning for w/e suits you.
please please please do not get the safc.
