my first speeding ticket

hey guys,

i was pulled over yesterday and slapped with a fine of $384 for going 85. In reality I was nowhere near 85 and I think the real reason for me getting pulled over is because I was riding along side my friend in his evo...we were just riding along side each other without speeding and we both got pulled over and charged with speeding and threatened for a wreckless driving charge...is there any way in hell I can win this case if I go to court, I swear I was not going 85 but I have no way to prove it except for my other friend who also got the ticket...im so pissed...im already paying enough for insurance

well first off they officer will need to send in the slip from the radar or lazer gun that says the speed so if he didnt really catch you going that fast it will show your not guilty. second if you are cruising next to someone at the same speed this can be considered racing wether or not you are or arnt. third get a lawyer for a few hundred bucks and you are 99% to get it off.

dam that sucks, i guess ill be out looking for a lawyer tomorrow than, I like riding next to my friend cuz it just seems cool...lol...but I guess $384 is not worth the "cool" factor...also...I just ordered a valentine one, not so I can speed, but so I can drastically slow down for cops that seem like they get a bonus for giving as much speeding tickets as possible.

Also, if im looking for a lawyer...should I have him look at the ticket or should I alreayd mail the ticket back with "Not Guilty" checked off?

The thing is that these cops (in new york anyway) are trained to estimate speeds with or without a gun, and they are re-tested on it every few years, most cops can usually tell a cars speed within 5mph or so. So when you take it to court make sure you listen for when the last time he was tested on his speed estimations.

I'm not sure about where your at but if it's truly your first take it to court or higher a ticket lawyer. You'll get ajudication with held and probaly only pay court fee's. Don't go in there and call the cop a liar cause everyone is on his side and not yours..

alll i can say is get a lawyer. it might cost a penny now, but if insurance is going to go up, then you'll be losing more in the long run. good luck!

Plead not guilty to the charge, do some more research here as there are many threads on this type of issue, contact a lawyer who does this kind of thing and SLOW DOWN.
