Question about my awd drive train..I need a picutre.

Looks like the boot cover on the drive train is ripped, the part located in the middle of the drive train not the one near the front transmission? Is that a problem or just there to keep out the dust?

Comments appreciated.

I dont have a picture but looks like its the CV boot cover in the middle of the drivetrain, does anyone have a picture? I can point it out. Does the cover do anything?

Keeps dirt and other road crap from working its way into that area. The boot covers grease and other stuff so you should get that replaced.

yeah, if the boot is torn you definitely need a new one before the grease is contaminated with water, mud, and other road debris, which will in turn ruin the CV joint it covers to give you the famous CV "click".

What do you mean CV click? It will start to make clicking noises while the car is motion?

Any road grime that gets inside will cause this joint to fail. So, you can replace the boot now or replace the entire joint in a few weeks.

The same goes for axle boots. So, I recommend you check these any time you are under the car.

oh, you mean the boot isn't on the axle? if it is, and the joint gets alot of grime and dirt, they usually start to click when turning while in motion. if it's not on the axle, i'm still not sure what boot you're referring to.

I need a picture.

Can someone help me please. The dealer order the CV boot for the joint but doesn't look like it will be the right one because I explained its right underneath the center console and they are showing one CV boot for the drive train in the front of the car. Please post. Thanks

I think he is referring to the lobro joint in the center of the driveshaft. They call it a LJ in the service manual. This joint can both flex and change in length. But flexing the driveshaft too much during removal will cut the LJ boot.

Part of the problem is you calling everything under the car drivetrain. There are front axles, rear axles and the driveshaft (called a propeller shaft in the service manual).

Take your car over to the dealership and let them take a look (or someone else that knows about evos) so that you will get the right part. Better safe than sorry.
