New guy, no evo yet.

Hello everyone, my name is Eric.

Ok, I am deadset on owning an evo, however it won't be happening until next year when i get back from basic training and ait. Anyways, right now I'm trying to figure out which would be better.

I can get an evo viii for alot less than a evo 9, but I'm not sure if that is a sacrifice I should make. Is there a major performance difference between the 8 and the 9? I know the 9 has 10 more hp and has mivec, but does that really make that much of a difference?

Basically I want close to a 400awhp daily driver while remaining stock turbo. I guess I just wanna know what will be more cost effective to mod, the 8 or the 9?

Also, was '06 the first year the electric blue pearl color was offered, or was it available in 05? I love that color and thats the color I want, also if I did go with a 8, is the bumper off the 9 gonna fit, or will it not without other parts.

All in all I just wanna know if they price difference between an 8 and a 9 is worth it. Thanks for the help, and please don't mind the newb questions, I just need to know these things before I make up my mind, and I suck at searching for the right things.

-Eric

Objectively, there isn't a major performance difference. Subjectively, yes. Many people who have owned both VIIIs and IXs will agree. The MIVEC noticeably spices up the lower-end torque, and you can pull from lower rpms. And if your goal is 400 awhp, it'll be a lot cheaper and easier to do it with a IX, especially by the time you plan to buy one since more IX-specific parts will be available and more testing would've been done. Obviously the IX is going to be more expensive to purchase initially, but the stock upgrades over a VIII are very beneficial. While all Evos respond very well to mods, the IX is just far more capable.
