A simple question for a Subie owner

I'm an Evo owner - love the car but I noticed an '04 WRX looking lonely on the Dodge lot and brought it home. The dealer stuck on some crummy Goodyear tires and today, when I went to pull wheels to check brakes, I found acorn nuts. The car has OEM alloys. So, the Dodge boys not only gave me crummy tires but absconded with my lug nuts too I'm thinking.

I know some of you people also have Subies. What's the proper lug nut for this wheel? It looks like whatever was originally on there had washers.

You could try a Subaru forum as well. NASIOC or AWjunkies.

I can just imagine what the dealer would want for twenty lug nuts so I was thinking of trying the local wrecker. But if I go to a salvage yard I really need to know what I am looking for. I googled subie lug nuts for a couple of hours but no joy. I tried registering at NASIOC, they send an e-mail, an email I am still awaiting. So, I was hoping somebody here could supply this information.

Huh! No, not locking lug nuts - regular lug nuts for a subie with 16" alloy wheels.

I'll have what he is having.

No washers on the stock WRX wheels. As a matter of fact there isnt anything special about them.

Yeah, everyplace I looked on the internet, and I looked extensively, wanted to sell me acorn nuts.

When I look at the wheel it doesn't appear that there is sufficient clearence for a self-centering nut like is OEM on my Evo. Still, around the acorn nuts that are on there now I can see the wear pattern of some kind of lug nut that had washers or a flat undersurface where it met the bottom of the cavity in the wheel.

The service manual says to use only special nuts on alloy wheels but provides no picture of the nut.. So, I'm still confused.

So, I'm thinking the acorn nuts on there now should work fine. Is this correct?
