Unhappy Evo and 18 yr. old a good combo?

today, i arrived at school to see a brand new Tarmac Black Evo 8 sitting in my school's senior parking lot. I have a bad feeling that the person who drives that car is going to cause serious injury or death to himself or others. Does anyone else out there believe that an Evo should not fall into the hands of an 18 yr old, unless properly trained? I personally would love an Evo but I know that I would get myself into trouble, even if I took precautions.

just my opinion...

i agree with u...MOST people under 21 have a no fear complex...hell i have one but i have the good sence and skill to know when i am at my limits(those limits i found and try to never go that far cause the roads i live on r not safe at those levels..meaning i need a race track to explore higher limits to my driving)...i am personally a little afraid of the Evo and its potential...and that just makes me respect it even more and makes me want to take some driving courses in the near future

in general though most young people don't have the experiance or the skill to drive and Evo safely...most will get themselves and others hurt

Depends on the person.

But, looking back on myself at that age, I wouldn't have trusted me with that level of performance.

Age - completely unimportant.

Driving Capability - ALL that matters.

I think if you haven't at least recieved a Racing License from some sanction, you shouldn't be driving anything over 150hp or more than 2500 lbs as a safety measure to limit the amount of damage an unskilled bafoon can cause.

Take a Bus or donkey, leave the driving to us.

I agree with 2cool in at that age, I don't think the majority of guys have the right mindset to drive an Evo safely. That's just too much power and too much testosterone. Generally not a good combination, regardless of the age.

Age does matter...cause the younger u r the less experiance u have behind the wheel of cars in general...and yes some can handle it but the majority cannot...when i was 16-21 i would not have trusted myself with something like that...hell i wanted all sorts of high power cars then but i talked myself out of it cause of my lack of experiance and my abilities needed more time to develop
i am 24 now and i feel confident that i can safely drive an Evo but i do hold alot of respect for what it can do and what can happen if i screw up

Oh, horse feathers! If a racing license was required, I would not have my EVO, even though I'm nearly 60 years old
Sure, that's a lot of car for an inexperienced or reckless driver, but they could do just as much damage with a 4 door Hundai with A/T..... If that driver is dangerous with the EVO, he or she will be a danger with any other car as well....

of course this topic has been beat to death before and if i remember right the general opinion was that in most cases a younger driver should not have cars like Evos at young ages but there r exceptions to every rule

if the driver has common sence and takes their time to learn about the car and let themselves catch up to the cars potential then there should not be a problem

If I'm a parent of an 18 year old kid -- at 37, I'm old enough, just barely -- first of all, he's not getting an Evo unless he pays for it (including insurance) without help from me. Fat chance there.

If he somehow gets his hands on one (maybe a rich uncle leaves it to him as an inheritance), I'm dragging his *** to a three day course driving high performance sedans at a road course. Because when you put an Evo in an 18-year-old's hands, 100+ MPH is going to happen. I want my kid to spend his first few days doing that kind of stuff with an instructor sitting next to him telling him when he's driving like an ***.

And I'll drag him to go autocrossing every chance I can -- might as well expose him to some responsible (and generally older) car enthusiasts, and teach him that you can have fun with a car without driving at reckless speed on public roads.

yeah, i agree with jbrennen. i know a lot of people that shouldnt be behind the wheel even though they are 40... and there are very good 18 year old drivers out there. whether or not the kid deserves to be driving an evo or not is not totally dependent on his age. his father may be a rally driver, and has taught him things behind the wheel since he was 13. my dad had me driving a stick two times a day for five days a week on two miles of gravel road... but the time i got my license, i had two years behind me... for some people, driving just comes naturally, but like jbrennen said, i would recommend performance driving courses, but not just for 18 years old, but for anyone who wants to drive that kind of machine with little experience. ive already read too many stories of wives totalling the husbands evo or totalling them on their own.

i am 18... the evo is my second car - yea im spoiled. my first car was a volvo S60t5. drove it for 2 years not a single problem. not a single ding. kept it maintained beautifully and as we speak, there is someone enjoying that car (probably cant even believe it is preowned)...

now, dont get me wrong - the S60T5 is no evolution. but it had plenty of power and decent handling capability (compared to other cars 18 year olds "should" be driving).

im proof that it depends on the person. i know the limits. i know where fun turns into death and i know consequences.

hell, i even waited 700 miles and an oil change before i even took my evo over 5000rpm

yea.. true true.. age doesn`t matter~~
I`m 20 (almost 21) and I got my Racing Licence when I was 19~

When you go to any racing academy..
they will teach you how to get out of emergency situation first!

then.. they will teach you spinning skills and some hardcore stuff~
even though I`m only 20.. I think I`m a better driver than normal 25 years or 30 years old drivers..

think like this!!
most of people driving expensive sport car are old people!

I am sure I`m better than those 55~60 years old people driving those fast cars...

going slow does not mean that you are good at driving..
knowing how to escape from an emergency situation is to be a good driver!

of course.. driving sooo fast without any skill is stupid!
you have to know how to control the car.. just like you controlling your body!

I went to the 3-day skip barber, and nowhere did they teach us "hardcore spinning skills." They had a low level "driving school" not "racing school" where they did skidpad control, but the racing school was strictly formula dodge cars that you would NOT want to be spinning around in. And the only thing they tell you when you've lost control beyond counter-steering/throttle-steering is brake and clutch all the way down. I'm not disbelieving you, but while a racing license teaches you car dynamics, how to take the racing line, and how to heel-toe at the right moment....it does not teach you "crazy spinning skills" or even how to drift.

Most people who boast about being young, but superior to older drivers generally wind up crashing. Don't brag, just drive safe and use your head.

Most Americans can't control their bodies...

http://content.health.msn.com/conten...m?pagenumber=2

And without all the insurance, medical, and bodyshop bills caused by these uncrontrolled individuals, our economy might only be based on games and singing. Racing, Bull Riding, and Rock Climbing are Sports, everything else is just a game.

Maybe unskilled drivers are the result off over compensated singing and/or gaming parents and it's darwinism (Evolution... heh) trying to get the unfit out of the gene pool.

Maybe the Evo is going to help evolve our society by riding it of the uncapable. Quickly too..
