Is the Lancer Evo a supercar?

I searched but didn't really find anything. When I think of a supercar I think of a car that costs at minimum $50k that you would rarely see on the road. Is the Evo a supercar or is it just a very fast econo-box? What makes a supercar? Is it performance, styling, price, or a combination?

Negative, it's not a supercar in any way shape or form. Though with slight modification an Evo can perform equal to or better then most supercars...

No, its not a "supercar" in the exotic /expensive/rare sense that is associated with those types of vehicles.

No! Looks like a econbox on steroids, bland interior, lack of any creature comfort, and not very super in stock form low 13's, 155 topspeed, not far off of a hybrid Honda Accord.

I need to win the lottery, so I can buy a Ford GT then I would own a true Supercar not just a super car.

Supercars are generally very rare, are very expensive to insure, made to order, approach speeds of 200 mph. and usually cost upwards of $150,000. You can't even buy a viper or a vette for $50,000.

Im going to have to disagree with both of you. I was in Barnes & Noble the other day and I picked up a book on supercars. They didn't feature our US spec EVOS but they did however have a section on the UK's FQ400. There section on that car was bigger than that of the Bugatti Veyron and Murcielago. They referred to it as a supercar. And the FQ400 is a TUNED version of the EVO VIII. So if you have a TUNED EVO that can hang with or surpass the FQ400 than I would have to say yes.... IT IS A SUPERCAR!!

i would probably consider the NSX a supercar. don't the nsx and evo have similar performance numbers? i know in the best motoring videos the evo almost always beats the nsx.

The NSX is a 2-seater with a mid engine layout. It's got more features that resemble a supercar. I've heard of the NSX being called a supercar often, but never the Evo.

To become a "supercar" class by power, you gotta have power to weight ratio around 0.16hp/lbs and stock evo is about 0.09hp/lbs
