Evo 8 purchasing woes...
I just sold my WRX and now looking at purchasing an Evo. I've been eyeing the Evo IX's but I'm having a hard time justifying the $30k + price tag for the small differences it has over the Evo VIII. I've done some extensive searches in here to find out what I possibly could and it threw me in a loop. I'm reading all these issues regarding clutches and synchro's and I really do not want to be put in the same predicament as I was with the WRX where I felt like my tranny was ready to explode at any given moment since it was putting down 300whp. I don't do any drag racing at all although I do take the car in spiritied canyon runs.
My question is, has there been any significant changes to the 9's tranny that would make it worth paying the price tag over an Evo 8?

I heard VIII's tranny is great, and many say MR's 6 spd.
, although some MR owners disagree. Again I own VIII and I love my tranny, heard that IX's tranny is great also. Get an VIII, you're right - it might not be worth paying that much over. All depends on kind of deal you might find too.
P.S Nice suby, hate the antenna though

I get a lot of comments about the antenna. Its an ugly antenna but oddly enough I put it up on purpose because I thought it made the car look like a remote control car
Ive got an '03 VIII with almost 70k miles and no problems with tranny. I change all the fluids regularly and just had to replace the stock clutch at 60k
I have no drawbacks so far buying a VIII

The MR isnt worth it IMO if you get a IX go for the SE and call it a day. The big problem with buying new is you cant modd it otherwise your warrenty is done. So if you plan to modd get a VIII and keep a little change in the bank if its your daily driver.

and i hear the 5spd trannys are stronger than the 6spd, im not sure if they changed anything on the IX's...5spd has bigger gears, holds more fluid, and is cheaper to fix than the 6spd if something does happen..
If you can find a solid deal on an VIII, go for it.
You can have the tranny rebuilt to serious strength for about $1k and (a new clutch for about the same) or pay an extra $10k-$15k for a new car.
My VIII has 40k+ miles and no clutch issues since it was adjusted by the dealership at 20k miles. The tranny is fine.
Good luck,

I guess we all find our way into the Evolution community at the end of the day
That's gotta mean something right? I guess I have nothing to worry about. Hope I find one by next week!
