Its a great price for what you are getting, but chances are that evo has lived a hard life. I would check the car very in depth including a compression check. Factory spec for compression is 160psi per cylinder with no more than +-5 psi between. My evo checked out at 175-175-174-175. Check out this thread too.

Sign up for the carfax.com if you are in the market for used car. It will be best $20.00 you will ever spend.

personally, I wouldnt want to go buy someone elses project car, im sure if you look around the boards and online you will find an Evo VIII for a decent price that hasnt been beaten on. IMO, I would rather have my own project car so I know exactly how and what I did to it, as opposed to having to second guess what the previous owners have done right/wrong.

^VIII tails are different then the VII tails. VII tails are all red.

It sounds like a good deal but like others recommended you need to do a couple of things before you commit.

1) Compression check
2) Boos leak check
3) Tranny/diff/clutch check

The mods are pretty decent... and would be very expensive to duplicate. You seem like a car guy... check it out real well... ask AMS about it maybe?
