New IX could use help

I have a 06 evo IX and just bought my first mod: Megan 3'' TBE.

My first and foremost concern is keeping my car safe. Secondly, it is to gain power.

I just learned how to use the basics of ECUflash and am thinking about getting the Jestr M1 tune.

I will be sure to buy a boost gauge before I get the tune.

I was told that it might be a smart idea to get a MBC but I've heard various comments on these... what do you think? What potential problems might I run into using a MBC opposed to just having boost being tuned into the ecu?

Also, I heard that stock evo IX's run 20psi at sea level... so should I even have to adjust boost levels (that's pretty high)...

Thanks for the help

you can run up to 23 psi on 93 octane gas

yes a mbc is a great addition before a tune and it helps a lot by decreasing boost taper plus lets you control your boost level completely regardless of the tune

jestr is claimed by many to be one of the best so you can' go wrong there

good luck

80210, depending on your dealership they may void your warrenty for the MBC.

Mine tried, until I took the car out of the shop and removed it and then took it back.

I was lucky.

Just my .02

MBC bypasses the safety protocol of the ecu, If you know what your doing & dont mind adjusting the MBC each time the weather changes then go for it..I would rather have the ecu control boost..

You can control the boost via ecu flash, but it will alwasy taper once you get to redline.. WORKS has been able to hold boost to redline with their tune, but you have to pay a lot for it..At $499 per tune not many people are willing to pay for it since ecu flash is available..

80210, after all the time I spent answering questions and informing you of this stuff last night on AIM, I am quite disappointed that you act as if you have never been told these answers. It was less than 24 hours ago that I gave you all this info in great detail.

I told you to get an MBC, where to set boost, and how to get tuned. Now, you're asking about stock boost, saying that the stock boost is high (it's not), and talking about a remote flash from jestr instead of a custom flash in-person from someone locally? I just don't understand why I wasted so much of my time trying to help you not only build your car properly but also to save you money if you weren't going to even make use of that info...

No, the Works flash is nothing special. It doesn't hold boost to redline anymore than any other flash where the stock boost solenoid is in use. They just run low boost (~20psi) where there obviously won't be much taper. Any flash tuner can set up the tune to have less taper, and the boost cannot be raised by the ECU - they have to use modified boost hoses with restrictor pills (or remove one of the stock pills) in order to raise boost above stock.

bro, I would get the Forge mbc. Cheap mod ($85) that will give you some great power gains - also gives you a nice low-end torque spike that makes the car much more fun to drive around town. Please don't mod your Evo IX and then drive it around at 20psi - that's kind of a waste - especially with a IX which can tolerate a little more boost than the VIII's on pump gas safely. I would consider spiking to 23psi on pump 93 in a Evo IX to be safe, as long as you are tuned for it.

Also, I have the Megan TBE and love it - since it is such a great price, I'd recommend getting the Megan O2 housing at the same time for an extra 10whp or so...

ECUflash by Jestr tuning FTW!
