New Evo, - Need Help/Advice

Any input/suggestions/advice here would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an 06 evo MR, 10,000 miles about 2 weeks ago.

Test drove it and it was pulling to the right, salesman said he fixed it so I signed the paperwork and took the car (big mistake)

Took the car to my buddy's shop who is a certified mechanic. We put it up on the alignment machine, got it perfect. Car still pulls to the right.....

hmmm ok, we take the wheels off and 3 of the BBS rims are bent on the insides....

Take the car to the dealership, when they initially got it they took it to NTB and put new tires on the car and NTB didn't say anything to them about bent rims. So my theory is that one of the porters or someone that works at the dealership decided to take my car for a joyride and obviously went over something.

Mitsubishi dealership sends all 4 rims off to have them redone, so there supposedly straight now and they put new tires of the rims so all *should* be good now.

The car STILL pulls to the right, dealership is aware of this and the car is there now and there looking at it.

Carfax is clean etc, no problems. Dealership made a big mistake and sent me to their body shop guy to look at the rims and he flat out told me did a little body work to the car when they got it, so obviously someone did something to it, he claims it was just a tiny bit of hood buffing and a dent on the fender though, but who knows if that's the truth.

When the cars on a lift, my good friend who is a mechanic can't see anything wrong with the naked eye and neither can the guys at mitsubishi dealership.

It doesn't pull horribly to the right, its just a slight pull, but I'm picky and paying 30 grand for a car I expect it to be damned perfect.

Any idea's what could be wrong, what I should do, I'm out of idea's at this point? Help would be much appreciated.

thanks.

Heading back to the dealership tomorrow morning, they say it will be fixed by then. I'm afraid the dealership may allign the car improperly just so it drives straight to "fix the problem"

any help asap would be much appreciated.

You sure it's not the standard pull you get to the right due to the natural direction water needs to drain off of tarmac? Sorry, have to at least ask

heh, yep positive. taken it to perfectly flat parking lots and it still does it, mitsubishi technician confirms its not just the roads as well, something is pulling.

The Evo is really sensitive to directions in the road... I bank to the right everywhere but the freeway and the middle of 4 lane roads... But it depends on how "slight" it is. Also, I assume this happens with your hands off the steering wheel, right? (duh, I know, but just checking)

Rims having been bent means that some serious damage may have been done to at least the suspension if not the chassis as a whole. I'd have your friend check those out as well make sure all the CV joints and the connections for the suspension etc etc are all properly intact.

...... I was kinda thinking the same thing! Well if the problem is fixed when you leave the dealership and you take it to you mechanic buddy you had align it the first time around then you should be cool. At least the dealership is making an effort to fix your car, I know that they should but at least they know that too!

My buddy, the mechanic is here now. He says he thinks the CV joints are all fine, but there could possibly be a problem or a bend in the control arms, but the dealership doesn't see any problem with them so there not willing to do any work to them, but it is possible there could be damage to them not visible to the naked eye is there not?

If you get into the possibilities its possible some internal damage has been done to your engine that won't arise until a few thousand miles from now... There's plenty of things that could be wrong with a car not visable to the naked eye that could cause thousands of problems... Afterall, if you could see every problem with your naked eye, we wouldn't need trained mechanics

So yes, its possible, maybe the frame is twisted, maybe the control arms are bent or something, maybe one of the shocks/struts on the right side was bent or damaged or is just weaker internally so it compresses easier which pulls you to the right.

Any suggestions as to what to do at this point on my part? The dealership mentioned the possibility of taking the car back if I'm really that dissatisfied with my purchase......I dont want to end up with a car with a bent frame or bent parts a thousand miles down the road from now.

You still have the stock tires? If not, what about radial pull or some other issue with the tire?

dealership put brand new tires on the car after they had all the rims redone.

they are some cheap sumitomo tires (100) a piece by the way.

Read his post? It said they put 4 new tires on.

Check the pressure in the tires too though...

Um, my recommendation would be to have a trusted body shop look over it for frame damage and then have someone look over the suspension and all that stuff as well... If you find the problem either A) Make the dealer fix it/pay to fix it (mainly if it is suspension related) B) Make the dealer give you back like 10k on the car since it should be a salvaged title if the frame is bent and then keep the damn thing. (if only that would be so easy...) If the frame is bent, it can probably be bent back by a decent bodyshop, friend of mine bought an old salvage title Evo that was wrecked and bent the frame back... For 12k he bought an evo that needed some front end (i.e. intercooler etc) work and some body work (including the frame).

But good luck, my experience with dealers has been... I don't deal with dealers unless it's my grandma's minivan...

PS: My tires were 65 bucks a piece, and other than the noise (which I pray to God is them and not my TC again...) don't have any problems at all.

Where are you located? Maybe some locals can give you some advice on where to take it to get it checked out?

The car is still under warranty, I am sure you know that. So they should fix any problems you have. Here is the link that gives you the rundown of the warranty that is transferred to you as a secondary owner, hope it helps.

Thanks for the info.

Going to go pick it up tomorrow and see what they have to say and take it to an independent body shop with a frame alignment machine and see if its in alignment and if its not throw a fit at the dealership.

I have a good feeling it was in an accident and they didn't tell me about it.

I'm in DALLAS, TX by the way if any locals would be willing to lend a hand it would be much appreciated. The guys at the dealership have been pretty helpful for the most part, but they dont "see" anything wrong with the car so they are being pretty useless.
