Your Opinions, help.

I have been talking with my parents and I am thinking about buying a crashed Evo and fixing it. This is because there is no way I could possibly buy a new Evo because of the cost. But the Evo has been my favorite car for a while and I am determined to get one. I know a lot about cars and am in an Auto class and my dad was a mechanic for a couple yeas and knows how to do pretty much everything. *Oh, and I do have a job...* Do you think it is worth it. I have the time and patience for it and live in Chicago where Evos are plentiful. What do you guys think? It worth it? Or am I just crazy?

No, wrecked evos go for the same price as a new or used but not wrecked one would cost, minus the cost of parts you need to fix it. You cant get a wrecked evo cheap. Say you find an 05 with the rear end smashed in, you still need to do frame work, which is expensive. So you might end up getting the car for 15,000, but your gonna need another 10k for the repairs.

Before you buy one, check if you can pay the insurance. A lot of people can't.

I'm thinking in the 10k maybe more or less. My dad has a lot of tools for cars, im serious. And this will mostly be me and my dad in our free time. We also have a lot of connections. And im not worried about insurance that much because its gonna be under my dad's name.

you'll never find somethign repairable for 10k. then you need ton consider the cost of parts, and then insuring a car that will not have a clean title, which to the best of my knowledge is extremely expensive. best of luck

Safe your money. Evo will never get old. Once you got enough money, you will appreciate that car.
Also, There are (maybe) Evos for less than 20K. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you can find one cheap enough do it. For sure. At least if you do it all your self you'll know it was fixed right. But from what I have seen wrecked EVOs are still pretty expensive

Yea, me and my dad will be fixing it up, the only reason it should go to shop is for paint

Itll be fine as long as its done right. Plenty of custom cars that are on the road started from somthing that didnt even look like a car.

It always makes me laugh when people say it wont be the same. If you know what your doing it will

Good body shops can return a vehicle to as-new condition. Don't be so quick to pass a wrecked vehicle off...

hes 16. myspace for the win. i think its an awesome project to do. i wish my dad and i were patient enough people to do such a bonding experience as rebuilding a car, but sadly were both pretty busy. Just find the best one you can for the price and go with it and make it all go out good. good luck!
