Just bought an Evo

Hey guys,
I just bought an EVO MR and I am considering modding it, but I don't know a thing about cars lol. Any suggestions on what to start etc.

drop in filter
HKS RS Suction (If you get a tune to go with it)
Lower Intercooler Pipe
O2 Housing
3inch turboback with testpipe or High flow cat (Your choice)
walboro 255 fuel pump
Hallaman Pro RX Manual Boost Controller
Tune (MOST IMPORTANT)
Swift springs (If coilovers are out of your price range)

IF that is not enough for you go:
Cams (Do your research)
FMIC (I like AMS and Buschur)
Water Injection Kit

That is a decent start in my opinion.

Do your own research and the "SEARCH" button is your best friend. Find which parts you like and go from there. Remember a tune is your best friend, do not slap on an intake without it.

There is a ton of good information in this section and really all of the bolt-on stuff is about as intuitive as it gets. Just take things step by step, do a lot of reading on the forum and you'll be able to do any of it yourself. SRT-4's post offers a decent path but there are so many options with each mod, make sure you do your research to get the best stuff. Congrats on the MR!

Congratulations. Did you grin all the way home? I plan on buying one myself in the next few months!

Something to think about: Does it have a warranty? Do you want to keep the warranty? If the answer is "yes" then that will limit what mods you can do because many mods will void your warranty. Also, what do you want? More speed, better handeling, or custom looks? Finally, what's you budget a few hundred or a few throusand?

So maybe ask something specific like "what power upgrades can I get for under $1000 that won't void my drivetrain warranty?" Or "What will make my car handle better for less than $2000?" Etc...

When I get mine, I plan to concentrate on making it handle better by maybe going with suspension mods, lighter wheels, alignments, etc. Maybe.. Or, I might just run it in stock A class at the local SCCA Autocross. I'm not sure yet.

All I know is I want to keep my warranty because I'm not paying for a new transmission if it goes out just because I put in a performance clutch (for example).

so what do you want to do? Maybe you should just keep it stock until you figure out what you really want. Take your time.

first mod should be the driver...Learn for a couple of months before modding.. Basically a good TBE+flash should be enough

My suggestion is to break it in, get a feel for the car to a point you know you feel confident.. The car stock is much faster than most people know what to do with.

yea. Thanks for all the input. I'm planning to break the car in first then go to a few track days etc, then take it from there. Probably spending around 2000 give or take on tunings in the near future. I live around MA and I found some local tuning shops, wasn't sure why but KTR tuning was 2500 for their most basic tune, that looked pretty damn expensive.

if you are unsure about what to mod then learning your car and researching how mods affect the car is your first priority.

Well, you can start with a full 3 inch from front to back and a ECU flash. I mean, that's how I started . 3"Catback Exhaust, test pipe, and a down pipe, and of course a Mail In Flash from Jestr Tuning. I promise you that with those combos, you will notice a difference comparable to day time, and night . I do mean, crazy noticeable difference. Good Luck Just my opinion.
