Noobish Driving Experience

So, with the EVO comes your friends that want a ride. So, while I've had my car a month, I'm still learning the odds and ends of the car and especially these damned advans.

I live in Wisconsin and while the weather is warm, these tires simply do not grab when there's overcast in the mid 50's to 60's.

So yesterday a friend comes over and, of course, wants a lesson in EVO *** kicking. So I took it out to a private road that I usually give it hell since there are never any cops and while taking the turn on to the road I thought, **** it, why not just drop the clutch and 4k and let'r'rip. Well, the tires were still cold, the pavement was cold and the backend flipped right out from underneath me. I wasn't going that fast (since I took the turn from a dead stop), but the car, for a second, didn't seem like it was ever going to pull out of the spin. That quickly passed as the car recovered and I continued on with my WOT run.

The only thing I can think of is that I hit a bump on the road just right to pop the tires up off the ground to cause the slide. I've done autoxing in the past, taken lessons in race driving, so I was able to keep the car on the road, but that's my first Noobish EVO Experience. It was completely unexpected, and I felt like a dumb@ss with my friend in the car.

So there ya go, time for a at 7:45am!

So you launched the car as you were going through / coming out of a turn and are surprised that it went sideways ??? .....Sounds like you need a bit more time behind the wheel before you start 'street racing' and either wreck your car and/or hurt yourself or someone else...

Can't say I didn't expect the expert know-it-alls to start posting their trash.

Look at it this way:

I don't need you to come in here and tell me I don't know how to drive. I posted because I laughed a bit when it happend simply because it caught me by surprise.

If you can't share in the laugh, then don't post, because I don't need you to come in here and post sh*t like that.

And if you actually read my post you'd realize I took the turn from a DEAD STOP and launched it too high for the temp of the tires.

Sorry if you felt like I was being an a$$ ...Yes I did read your post and I re-read mine and I don't think I was harsh. The fact that you called yourself a dumba$$ is proof enough...Glad you can laugh about it...And no you did not hit a 'bump'...

meh, it's too early and I'm too tired to continue with this. You got your last word in, so I'm done trying to 'defend' myself from belligerent comments.

Just thought I'd share a moment of stupidity with a good laugh...

Glad you kept it on the road! Judging from all of the stories on this board, I am going to be mighty careful when I get my evo and I'll take some driving lessons too!

I was pumped at the time, but man, thinking back, it was a closer call than i really wanted it to be

It's a really fun car to drive, but man, it can get you into situations you don't want to be in no time.

Glad to hear you didn't wreck and were able to recover it! Now just remeber back to the part of the racing course where they tell you not to upset the balance of the car in a corner and you will be fine. The Evo is actually pretty forgiving until you unweight it in a corner and then it can be a wild ride even for the experienced. FYI, if you get skilled enough to unweight the car intentionally and power slide with opposite lock through a corner, it can be worth a few giggles, lots of fun in quattros. I would love to play like this in the Evo but I don't think it is a good idea with the transfer case issues out there.

Enjoy your new car!
