Tune up questions...

Sup guys. I have a 2003 Lancer OZ with about 30,000 miles on it now. I take very good care of it and always keep up with the oil changes. I have a Gredy evo2 exhaust cat back and a short ram K&N. Other than a short shifter I haven't touched the transition at all. Any advice on what I should get done for a tune up? The lady at the dealer said that the total was 579$ for trany, coolant, fule pump, suspension and some random others.... are there any that i deffinatly should go for and others that don't really matter?

Man, what a rip! $579! At that mileage, I'd do a coolant flush (DIY), new spark plugs (DIY), change oil (DIY), new air filter w/ K&N filter recharger kit, and flush the tranny (DIY). Definitely check things like brakes, belts, suspension wear items (bushings). But all of this can be done yourself for under $100...

^Yup, the only thing you're paying for is labor.

you are also paying for them inspecting the car for future problems. You can do the whole thing yourself (its easy, I did), but then again I'm not a mechanic and I could not sight abnormal wear and tear on some items. If you know what you are doing and how to inspect your car properly, never pay 600 for a tune up. I'm kind of crossing my fingers...35k not too many problems

I bought my car off the lot in August 2002 and i haven't had any problems. I've had all regular maintenance done to it and it's running like a champ. However as i'm typing this - i think i'll change the belts and hoses when i get home from my deployment this fall.

Trust me, you can do all this stuff yourself and save a ton of money.

^So true! The only thing someone else has done to my OZ since my driving it off the lot was the dealership for the fan relay recall replacement and a free oil change...

DIY FTW!

^Not neccessarily! Let the tranny drain itself (about 4 qts total will release), and add the same amount into the tranny dip stick tube... Done, and hell of alot cheaper! Just do that 3 times during your next 3 oil changes, and it'll be smooth.
