Getting an evo - some questions!

Hello!

After lurking for a while, I finally saved enough money, and I think it's the time to get an evo . I do have a pretty decent job, making decent money, and I calculated that getting an evo, would be something that I could afford. Last time I talked to peeps at Don Herring Mitsubishi in Dallas, gave me a pretty good quote, so I think it should be a pretty good deal.

Anyway, I've got some questions dealing with auto loan, and auto insurance.

As far as the auto loan goes, I found a local credit union that could give me a loan for 60 months, at 5.74% APR. Although, I need to call them, so they'll personalize it for me, but I was wondering what are the things/questions that I absolutely would *need* to know/ask? I'd like to maybe pay the car off quicker, so I know that I should ask about penalties (if they'd apply), but what else should I know? Any pointers?

Also, I did some online quoting with auto insurance websites, and SHEEESH! Man, they honestly rip you off! I mean, I'm a good driver, no tickets/accidents on my record, I'm 26, and they were still wanting $2000 yr!! Full premium since I'll be paying it off, but still! F-that!

So I'm going to have to go on my dad's insurance, and I dunno. Farmers (who is our current provider) seems to have pretty decent rates - or at least enough options on their site to quote something that's somewhat decent. Anyway, I picked pretty high deductibles, no rental car/road assistance bull****, since mitsubishi is covering that. Here's the rates:

.................................................. ....Deductibles...................Cost
Bodily Injury/Property Damage......25/50/25......................$428.00
Uninsured Motorist.........................25/50...........................$157.30
Medical Coverage...........................2000........... ...................$68.90
Comprehensive Deductible.............750........................ ......$275.10
Collision Deductible........................750............. ..................$401.40
Glass Replacement Coverage.......................................... .....$27.50
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Premium 12 months............................................ ..$ 1,358.20

What do you guys think? The deductibles are kindof high(ish), but the price isn't so terrible then.... About 600 bucks every 6-months isn't terrible. What rated did you guys get?

Any other pointers you want to give? Thanks!

Heh, yeah, Don Herring is really the closest dealership to where I'm from that actually *has* evos . So yeah, I'll probably stick with them.

Any pointers on getting a loan/insurance?

Yeah, I did that, but they only give you quotes for a "Lancer" without specifying the trim. The quote of $98 ish a month would be pretty sweet, though . I should probably call them, and ask for an actual quote.... What are you paying for your evo?

I just switched to Progressive. You're right, it does just say Lancer. I wondered about that too. I put in my VIN number and it still said Lancer, but in the actual paperwork it's listed as an Evolution AWD.

$239 for the 1st 6 months for me.

The OP's insurance quote seems fairly good to me. I would stick with a well-known insurer like Farmers because it anything happens the last thing you want to do is battle it out with the insurance. I might lower that comprehensive deductible though, or at least check out how much more it would cost to have a 500 or 250 deduct.

If I were him I'd raise this up: Bodily Injury/Property Damage......25/50/25

I think I had that kind of protection 20-30 years ago. LOL

Which reminds me, JayZeus, I'm 50 with a clean driving record. And that $239 is only for the 1st 6 months. It'll be $289 every 6 after that.

In case you didn't see it on their website. After you get your quote if you click on "Compare with other companies" you'll get a $50 off the first 6 months offer. At least I did.

Yeah, the rates with 250 or 500 deductables are just retardedly high. I mean, I have to be paying full premiums since I'll be financing the car, so it makes a lot of difference.

stick with a dealer that you can trust. as far as ins. goes, dont go too cheap on ins. because youll be kicking yourself if you need to use it.. and never drop full coverage on your evo because youd be pissed if you blasted someone and had to pay out of pocket or if it got stolen. and personally i wouldnt go under my folks insurance to save 6-700 bucks a year.. god forbid you had a bad accident the person could go after your parents assests.

Well, the isurance, since I'd be paying the car off, don't you *have* to have full coverage? And I dunno, 6-700 bucks a year, it's a pretty penny.

Well anyway, I just called Don Herring, and looks like they don't have any more evos I liked (graphite grey or black SE). Only SE's left are the two silver ones. Which is not something I wanted. They've got some MR's but that's a little too much, to shell out $37k.... I could call them and see what kindof a deal I could get, but I'm not really expecting anything below $34-35k...

I guess I may wait till october/november to see if I can get the EVO X, when I'll have a little bit more money saved up.

Well, you might have to wait a little longer as the Evo X won't be out till sometime Feb 2008.
