AMS TBE install question

I did some searching around in the "How to" section but the only thread I found that was even remotely close to what I was looking for didn't have pictures.

Anyway this very minute I'm sitting in my garage with my laptop and my Evo is jacked up waiting for my AMS tbe to arrive which should be within the hour. So I started getting ready.

I took off the plastic guard and can now see everything including the dp. Now I'm sure when the tbe gets here the directions will be pretty straight forward, but I was just wondering if you guys had any tips for me?

I've never done this before so any help would be awesome.

Actually the thing I'm worried about is switching the o2 sensor out and putting it in the new dp. Any advice on doing this such as things to watch out for and things to avoid?

-thanks in advance guys!

EDIT: I just looked under my car at the dp and I didn't see an o2 sensor. Am I mixing this up with the intake o2 sensor? Sorry I'm a complete n00b about this stuff and am trying my best to learn.

Having a REALLY hard time removing what ever sensor is connected to the cat. It was really hard to break lose at first then it tightened up again and it won't turn anymore.

Something I'm doing wrong?

-thanks

I installed the same AMS Turboback exhaust and High Flow Cat on my EVO IX. There are detailed instructions including pictures on www.evomoto.com website. click on exhaust and it should have the TBE instructions. I also did it myself on a lift which would also make it easier.

Just finished installing my Buschur TBE pretty straight forward direct replacement. I can't speak for the AMS but I've installed quite a few exhaust and they are all pretty much the same. take your time and pay attention to detail and you'll be fine. my advice to you would be to pickup some anti seize and cover all your bolt threads. have fun

Alright got the exhaust installed last night and I have a couple more questions.

I cruised around before I put that plastic guard peice on just to make sure all bolts were tight before I put it back on since its such a pain.

Anyway I drove around for about 2 hours last night with no problems (slight rattling sound but I'll get to that later). Today I drove around for about 10 minutes and my "service engine soon" light came on.

I don't have access to a jack right now so I can't really get under my car but I did check the sensor right behind the test pipe and it seemed like it was in there. Should I be worried about this light? I plan on getting it tuned with a MBC sometime in the next week. Will that get rid of the light or is there something I can do to get rid of the light?

Also I also noticed a rattling sound at low speeds; seems like when I'm at higher speeds the wind pushes on whatevers rattling so it doesn't make any noise. I only get it when I go over bumps, hit the gas or hit the brake. I think it has something to do with the plastic guard. When I took it off last night I noticed a metal peice that looked liked an upside down U.

Is it really neccessary to keep the plastic guard on there? I mean I took all of those plastic screws out carefully and there were about 10 that I weren't able to get back in. Also about 3-4 fell out.

-thanks

Are you talking about putting in a new sensor? If so will my local mitsu dealership have one?

And the light won't affect me or the car other then being on right?

were you given a defouler for your sensor? looks like a big nut that goes into the sensor bung. keeps all that extra crap from fouling up your sensor. if you were then try resetting the ecu.

No I didn't see one in the box. I went by my local shop and they said that since I was running a test pipe I would need an o2 simuator which I'm assuming is the same thing your talking about.

Anyway I got a PM from someone asking me if my tbe had the AMS logo on the tip of the exhaust which on mine it is.

Is this something new for AMS?

Here is a pic of mine....

look in the how to section for the mechanical 02 fix. It is really simple and cheap, and will help the CEL. Make sure to disconnect the battery and reconnect to reset the ecu after you install the 02 fix and the light should go away.
