Reliability questions about evo

Hey peeps

I jsut drove an 03 evo, and its a rush, I was deciding between 350z and evo, but Z doestn have sunroof but Im guessing it is more reliable than evo. Also evo doesnt have leather I am just torn between 2. I just have one question to people who had evo for about 2 years, what are the ussual costs for repairs and also how does the turbo hold up as well as othr parts after 60k. I know these are all noob questions, but thanks alot for taking your time to teach a noob.

Thanks

Evo's are relatively sturdy cars that dont differ much from any other car regarding scheduled maintenance with some exceptions.

Tires - Summer only ultra performance radials only last about 12-15K miles. The stock Advans retail for like 279.00 or so, you can run $100.00 tires though. If it snows in your climate your gonna need winter tires and wheels as well.

Brake Pads - Miliage varies. I've got 20K on my stock pads and they are very near needing replacement. $175.00 for all 4 corners.

Engine Oil - Mobil 1 or better + filter. (I change every 3K but I live in an extremely dusty enviroment).

Air Filter - 12K miles replace, or get a washable dropin replacement.

Clutch - T this is the big one. Evo clutch's are notoriously weak but I have a friend with 50K on the stock clutch on an 03 model. Another friend didnt get 5K on his IX before needing a clutch. The difference here is that one was driven properly and one was abused. Either way the stock clutch/flywheel is a weak part. Installation $500.00, parts 500-2500 depending on clutch choice.

Leather vs Recaro's - I wanted leather before I got my Evo.. now I know why it doesnt have leather. You want a seat that has grip.. I dont want to be sliding around in my seat and the Evo is on completely different level than a 350z. My MR has the black alcantra interior. Nicer, more durable than leather, and no slippy slide. My car doesnt have a sunroof option but I had one before, I missed it for about 5 minutes. After I got the Evo I didnt need things like stereo's', sunroofs, cruise control, leather, cubby's, compass's, etc. Driving an Evo is enough to keep the most demanding drivers satisfied. I dont need any gadgets or non-essential creature comforts anymore.

Evos are not a cheap car to own or maintain. You will save a lot if you can do you own work. Brakes I replaced mine with Hawk HPS for around 200. I got some all seasons Toyo Proxes for about 600 put on the car. Clutch well I am still on my stock one at 47k and counting. On the other hand I hear of people dropping a clutch in less than 5k miles. From what I have heard the turbo will hang in there past 100k. I hope this helps.

Stock tires on mine look good at 13K...clutch feels fine. 15k check up is coming up though. Brakes...no squealing really so not worried, but then again, I have a feeling it gonna need em soon.

Most likely I will be buyin a car it will have 50-65k on it, what are the things I should look for at that point, anyway I can tell whether turbo leaks or not w/o drivin it, because it is most liley going to be through auction, please let me know what other things I should look out for

Thanks

Check to make sure that the timing belt has been changed at that mileage for either car. I think the 350z has a chain though, so you dont have to worry about that. Ive got 47k on my stock clutch and i bought the car used. Just dont launch the car all the time and your fine. Also a friend of mine has over 100k on his 03' and its been holding up great for him. No problems. Good luck and enjoy either purchace. Both are fun cars!

if its like most inline fours, the 4g63 is an interference engine - meaning the valves occupy the same space as the pistons, just at different times. so if the timing belt snaps you can probably kiss your valves goodbye.

Evos DO come with leather....SSL Package. And as for the previous statement that leather doesnt "hold" you in during spirited driving, I beg to differ. Maybe it is because I am a bigger guy.

Maintenance will vary depending on how much you work on your car, and driving habits. Remember the more HP you try to push, the higher the chance of something breaking or needing to be upgraded.
