Intake and Exhaust

I just bought an 05 MR and I want the bov sound so i'm going to do a maf adapter and intake kit. Then i'm going to do a full exhaust downpipe back. Do I really need a reflash or will it actually hurt my performance? Everyone here says get a flash. Can I get away without one for the time being atleast? Any help would be great.

Uhhhh, you're lucky I read this thread b4 anyone else. Although I cannot guarantee your protection from the rest of the community I will give you the answers....

If you get an intake and exhaust you don't necessarily need a tune but without them all you will get is noise and very little performance benefits. Get a tune. Intake is not necessary but whatever floats your boat. Enjoy.

The issue is that when you change the intake it can throw off the MAF readings which can cause lean spikes. Thats not the best way to make power, but also it isn't safe. It's best to get a tune to keep the AFRs in check and keep your motor safe. Changing exhaust components can change boost characteristics and that could stack another problem on top of the lean AFR and potentially be more dangerous.

But, no, you don't need a tune. But, without one it is likely that you will be running lean, which could cause knock, which causes loss in power (when the ECU corrects for it) and can be harmful to your engine.

Even the open element filter can throw off the readings. If you want to be sure your motor is safe and you are getting the most power from your mods, get tuned. I'll tune it for you if you get a wideband and Tactrix.
