ams cams

So i called AMS the other day with the questions about there stage 3 kit.

Cams and head studs for around 600 i asked them how much installation was he responded600

I thought wow thats alot of money but at least i get a tune from them when im done. but no i was wrong the tune is not included the tune is another 500
so im looking at 1700 for cams in my car. Is this just me or is that a rediculouse amount of money!

My goal is 350WHP i would like to use the stock turbo and i want to stay away from Nos!

Any ideas on what mods i should do and is there a cheaper way to do cams i would like to do the work my self but i think that its a little big of a job for me to do.

How many people out there with 350WHP

right now ihave

3inch TBE
ported stock manifold
02 housing from TTP
injen intake upper and lower pipes
and a test pipe.

I havent tuned yet what else would u guys think is needed for 350WHP

Didn't see Boost Controller, Walbro Fuel Pump. I know these are a must to achieve that. Price may be higher than others but unless you have another respectable shop close by I wouldn't take the chance.

Well, cams and head studs for about $600 is not a bad deal. ARP head studs are about $95-100 depending where you get them from and cams, depending on brand can run you anywhere from $500-600 dollars.

Are you sure your installation quote was correct? AMS put my cams in and I know I didn't pay $600 for them to do so. Why don't you contact Eric or any of the guys there again and make sure the quote you heard is correct. They are very reasonable guys there.

I agree, my cam install by them was not $600...that would be almost an 8 hour install at their standard hourly rate!

when i asked AMS they said it would be 575 so i guess 25 cheaper then 600 but still that seems sooo high. specaily because it doesnt include the tune which is another 499 because i havent been flashed yet.

another question is could i put the cams in at my house and drive 7 hours to AMS for a tune.

And yes ams is the closest that i know of. inless theres a good place in northen wisconsin.

the boost and fuel pump will be done i just forgot to add them.

Do you think a intercooler upgrade is needed?

Thanks for all the help so far

if you boost 23 psi with the Wally installed and your current mods you should make 350. I made 335 at Ivey tune with a TBE, Wally 255, K&N drop in, and EBC set at 23psi

depneds how they do the head studs, one at a time is quicker but "can" lead to problems, many debates over this and I'm not taking one side or the other. Pulling the head will take longer.

In short that is not totally unreasonable, but may be a tad high. I would think 4 hours labor if they do the one at a time method on the studs, but they may not do it that way.

Call them back and ask for a break down on the labor charges.

Also, go ahead and get cam gears at the same time, won't cost anymore to install them than it does to do the cams.

think about their price like this.... if they are installing his head studs, and want to do it the right way, they are going to pull his head to do it.... that isnt exactly a 2 hr job. I bet their quote was dead on.

There was just another post the other day and Eric stated they do head studs with the 1x1 replacement method. They said if you do it right it causes no problems and they've never had a head gasket blown because of it.

in which case, 600 for an install is a little crazy... i wouldnt imagine any more than 350 or 400 at the worst case

i think it is because of the ARP headstuds, cheap but installation is a bit high ... plus no need for headstuds if u are not gonna boost over 25 psi

get only
-cams
-mbc
-walbro
-tune ..
