s2k to evo?? should I?
Hey guys, well I have had my s2k for about a little over a year now so far. Probably about a month ago i decided NOT to do any more power mods since they have little to no gain in power. At that point I simply wanted to do handling mods, wheels, tires, susp, and braces.
Now the house I am going to move into has a very steep driveway, and I dont even know if my car will go up it stock
Iv always loved the evo, but have never driven one. Few things im concerned about is reliability since this will be my only car and daily driver (probably only basic power mods)....and I think only other question I have unanswered so far is petal placement. Hows heel-toe shifting in the evo ix?
Well Im sure ill have more questions to come
. I hope this is the right place to post these kind of questions
Anyone else make this same switch have any comments... or anyone with any comments welcome. Thanks in advance

short answer = yes if you want mo powa
Long answer = evos take lots of maintenance, but are very easy to get decent power out of with just a mbc, turbo back exhaust, and a tune. I daily drive mine and I love it.
g/l on your journey to the dark side

More power and mod-ability is something i really want. seating 5 is something kind of cool while keeping performance.
What exactly should you look for, when looking at a used evo? I would like one as stock as possible... and mint cond....if possible. Im pretty crazy **** about my cars so maintaining it would never be an issue
Where do you think the best places to get the best deals are since I will have a somewhat tight budget trying to get into an evo9? autotrader or the fourms here etc.?
evo 9's are gonna all be above $25k regardless of miles... the lower mile ones will still be around 30k and it'll still be tough to find higher mile evo 9's for around 25k.. if you want one in the lower 20k's then you'll have to settle with an evo8..

Mine had a catback and a boost guage, thats all
Owned for about 11 months on the east cost, it went dealer to dealer till I got it, according to car fax. The original owner had it through emissions a couple of times while he had it from what I can tell on the carfax. Do you have to emissions test in the first year on the east coast?

It is all relative. They are two completely different cars, for different purposes, and entirely different experiences.
Test drive one and see if it is more you then your current S2k.

I'm not bias at all. I almost bought and still really like them even though I drive an Evo. They sound pretty sick. The boxer rumble alone makes me want a WRX for a beater just for the sound. lol
Bottom line is if your going to get serious into modding doing more then just a few basic bolt ons then Evo is the clear winner. Handles better, makes a lot more power with less money and IMO looks a lot better oh and in most cases the Evo has cheaper insurance.
STI's need aftermarket turbos to get where people with Stage 1 Evo's are. STI's are better kept with only slight mods and is the better daily driver IMO.
A well known Suby tuner by me made 460awhp and 420tq on an 06 STI with a 2.75 liter block and 35R on 100 octane. Thats not cheap at all...a much easier and cheaper mod path is as follows....Evo IX's make over 400awhp/tq with not to much trouble at all on STOCK turbo. Cams, alky, intake, TBE, fuel pump, boost controller and a pro tune and you'll easily be over 400 on pump gas. I'd imagine 420ish. Thats a helluva lot less then buying a 35R and stroker kit. Now thats pretty embarrassing for the STI's if you ask me. The bigger turbo kits are only fun with race gas from what I've heard.
To each his own but I've looked into both cars a lot before making my choice and if I had to do it again I'd still get an Evo.
Good luck and I hope this helps and sorry for any grammar mistakes. I'm really tired but that doesn't affect my knowledge.

I too made the transition from a 2001 s2k to my 05 Evo. To give you a short answer, I absolutely love it. The main reason I moved to the Evo was simply more room, I got very tired of feeling like I was driving a go-kart everyday!
