I'm new to evo's. I'm a long time dsm'er and want evo badly and I need to know the differences in the years. I know 2005 had a better turbo but the 9 has the better tranny. Can someone help me out here. Also I've seen some evo's with 3 guages above the climate controles where some have the radio, in others the radio is above the climate controles. Help a newb out.

 

03-04: all same. they had intercooler spray, which was gotten rid of for the next years. also was the only years to offer the color blue by you. HIDs were included.

05: introduction of ACD. no more blue by you, but an ugly electric blue. no more intercooler spray. SSL package introduced, giving you HIDs, sunroof, leather, and a decent sound system. also, different choice of models.
rs: no wing, no power windows, basically a stripped down evo to race out! slightly cheaper. also, no wing(an evo with no wing, i know, its not an evo)
gsr: the regular ol' evo
mr: the super evo! or so they wanted you to think. 6spd tranny, those gauges you speak of, HIDs, MEAN vortex generator, bilstein suspension, bbs wheels and other minor differences.

evo9: mivec! different turbo! different wheels! different bumper! and thats about all i can tell you about the evo 9. hope this helps, because everyone else on here is just gunna tell you to search

 

How noticable is the mivec?

 

havent actually been in one myself, but from what i hear it makes a very big difference, especially when it comes to modding

 

FYI: the SSL package was offered in the 2004 model year.

 

thanx. so SSL was the same in 04? cause my friend has an 04, non SSL, and his has HID's

 

evo 8 only one to come in yellow also i believe the gaguges are an option from dealer
